Fly Fishing Vacations For Everybody

By Bill Heath

Ask yourself this question - what do you think of when you think of the word "vacation?" If fly fishing is your sport of your choice, then the ideal vacation would include some sublime fishing in some really great spots. A fly fishing vacation doesn't have to be just for the fisherman. How's this - how about bringing the family along on your fly fishing vacation?

If you want to introduce fly fishing into the equation, how can you go about your vacation planning stage? First of all, you have to think first of the people whom you are planning to take along. A roof under your heads is probably the only thing you need to consider if you're planning to bring your fishing and football buddies from work over for the trip. Unless the wifey is as much into football and fishing as you are, you'll need to consider a whole lot of other things if you're bringing your family along.

A fly fishing vacations can be both exciting and productive. Choose a spot where you can easily get to within your budget. You'll need to be mindful of location because some fly fishing spots are relatively obscure and difficult to get to. This could stick a fork into your budgetary plans.

When trying to plan your fly fishing vacation, you may encounter packages that include every possible expense in the same tradition of all-inclusive resorts. However, many lodges don't have restaurants so you'll want to bring your own food. Be sure that your package covers transportation to the fishing spots you'll want to go to. You may even have the value-added feature of guides to help you find some primo fishing locations.

If the family is coming along, you may want to consider a location that is family friendly. Northern California has some beautiful spots for fly fishing plus there are ample entertainment options nearby for your non-fishing family. So while the kids are enjoying the lodges' different family-friendly activities, mom can relax somewhere while you enjoy your own separate versions of "me time". One way your loving wife can relax would be at any one of several spas offered by lodges in this pristine area.

It may be worth it to go on a fly fishing vacation and ask the wife and the kids to join you on your next fishing trip! Unlike other, more popular sports, fly fishing is a low-impact activity that women and children can certainly participate in, so why not ask them if they want to share your passion? For sure, this is much better than your wife yelling "halftime!" or your kids bugging you non-stop as you watch the Packers and the Vikings slug it out on the gridiron. And that is what family vacations should be about in the first place!

You may plan to go with your family, or hang out with the boys for the weekend, but all it takes is astute planning to ensure a successful fly fishing vacation. You can have a great time while you do what you love - fishing!
