Fishing Tournaments For The Ladies In Texas

By James Harden

With a populace of less than 8000, Rockport Texas offers intimacy and charm that some other locations across the Lone Star State's Gulf Coast can not. In addition to Rockport beach bed and breakfasts as well as other varieties of romantic lodging selections, this coast town is also home to three major annual deep-sea fishing tournaments - two of which are rare.

As soon as the fisherman has reserved his party's beach rentals for the duration (next to beachfront that has been acknowledged as being among the cleanest and best-maintained around the united states), there are a variety of excellent deep-sea fishing charter services to select from. The place to check out is the Allegro Marina, where locals tie up their boats while not in use; this is where one can get in touch with any number of charter services, each one owned by an experienced mariner who is knowledgeable about the Gulf waters where the big fish run. Shark, mahi-mahi as well as sail and billfish are generally in plentiful supply throughout the fishing season, which goes on from May through October.

First things first, however; it's a very good suggestion to book your Texas seashore rentals well ahead of time, particularly throughout the tournaments, that are held in May and July. Anticipate to pay extra for Texas getaway rentals during these times of year, since many of these vacation rentals tend to get snapped up early.

As for the fishing tournaments: two of those, held every year in mid-May and then mid-July, are actually geared toward the female angler - and therefore there are plenty in and around Rockport. The very first of them, "Babes on the Bay," takes place over the second or third weekend in May. The second one, often known as B.O.S.S., or "Babes OffShore Spectacular," is held on the second or third weekend in July. But, neither of these get quite as much attention as the Rockport Offshore Challenge, also held in July. It is one of the Gulf Coast's premier deep-sea fishing events; discover more at http://www.keyallegromarina.com/fishingtournaments.html.

For non-competition saltwater fishing outings at some other times, the charge is usually around $75 - $150 for each person for half-days and then roughly $250 - $300 per person for full days (determined by six to eight people per boat). Most of the area charters contain bait as well as tackle in their fees; but, you'll want to bring any food and drink for that day.

Beyond angling, Rockport presents a great deal, for example numerous samples of Victorian-Era buildings; the historic Heritage District offering its distinctive shops as well as cafes. In neighboring Fulton one can find the preserved mansion named for the town's founder, George Fulton. Constructed in the Second Empire technique that was prevalent after the American Civil War, the Fulton Mansion is currently open for the public as a museum and provides some of what was considered cutting-edge technology from the 1870s.

Individuals fascinated with nature will want to check out the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge found only a couple of miles away, along with the Connie Hagar Sanctuary and Aransas Woods.

Buying a Fishing Boat - Cash Or Finance?

By Mike Relahs

Before you take the boat buying plunge let me clue you in on two of the most widely spoken quotes in the boating world. "The happiest day of a boat owner's life is the day they buy the boat and the day they sell the boat" and "Boats are nothing more than holes in the water, into which you throw money."

Before you go out and purchase your fishing boat, remember that boating is a hobby and you shouldn't go overboard with it. Unlike your house, boating isn't really worth going into debt for. First time buyers who aren't sure about boating should always make sure they spend well within their budget.

Also consider these optional items, depending on your water sports preferences: water skis, wakeboards, wet suits, towables (tubes), tow ropes and gloves, weight system for wakeboarding, pylon, boom, tower, etc.

To get the most out of your boat, it's always a good to scrape up your recreational dollars, sell a few of your belongings, and simply save up for a while. In the meantime, you should carefully shop the boating market. After you save up 3,500 - 25,000 dollars, go ahead and buy the boat you want.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't spend all of your money on the just the boat itself. When you purchase the boat, you'll need to have enough money for taxes, registration, storage, towing insurance, gas, equipment, and even minor repairs if your boat requires them.

When buying a boat, used or new, cash is always better than financing. You can save money with cash, as there are no finance charges. Financing charges can get high, very high in fact if you don't know a lot about it.

If you must finance your purchase, it's a smart idea to use a home equity loan instead of a personal loan. This way, it'll be tax deductible. Always be on the lookout for boat show financing, and never, ever use it. Several boat show financing ploys will extend the loan out over the course of 10 - 15 years.

A new boater will either advance with boating or get out of it all together. Most boaters don't keep their boat for more than 10 years, which is reason enough not to get an extended finance loan on your boat.

Fishermans Soap - Eliminating Fish Smell On Many Things

By Mike Relahs

Fishermans Soap - Eliminating Fish Smell, skunk spray, cigarette smoke, and other undesirable scents. This product is capable of tackling diverse smells and is used in multiple situations. It is very helpful to scientists and to those in the seafood industry. It can also be used to clean aquariums, smelly dogs, and tackle gear.

For scientists of companies, high end institutions and the government, smelling of fish is highly undesirable. Fishy odors can linger on everything they come into contact with. This includes all tools, clothing, and people. Luckily, Fishermans Soap will wash and clean all of these. Scientists can also use it without fear it will cause damage to the areas in which they work. The soap is not toxic. Therefore it has no harmful environmental impacts. It is also very cheap.

Many lines of fishing industry will be assisted with Fishermans Soap as well. It cleans up after sea life has been processed and gets rid of fishy smells. Those working with shrimp, oysters, scallops, crabs, lobsters or clams all benefit from this. After a work day is over, workers, processing equipment and boats must be cleaned.

Aquariums can sometimes be the victim of extreme bacteria build-up. When this occurs, individuals often have no choice but to temporarily remove its contents and clean it out. This cleaning process is assisted with Fishermans soaps. Simply add the product to warm water, and use this solution to clean out the aquarium. Rinse out well before refilling. Dirty aquarium ornaments can also be cleaned with the warm mixture. Again, make sure they are rinsed and dried before returning to the tank.

Larger pets sometimes need intense cleaning as well. Dogs have been known to come in contact with skunks and be left smelling terrible. Tomato based solutions only mask this smell before they wear off. Shampoos lack the strength to properly deal with the problem. Luckily Fishermans soaps have been used by customers with high levels of satisfaction.

To clean off tackle equipment, first rinse out the empty tackle box. Make sure every compartment and hinge gets cleaned. Then wash every piece of tackle and return them to the box. This procedure not only gets rid of fish smell but also that of humans. Therefore it will no longer be necessary to purchase and wear artificial fish scented products.

This brand of soap can make the jobs of scientists and food industry workers easier. It quickly and easily cleans and gets rid off smells. It also helps clean aquariums, skunk sprayed dogs, and fishing tackle. The product is nontoxic and is also quite cheap.

Enjoy Small Town Charm On your Next Angling Getaway

By James Harden

Angling of every kind across the Texas Gulf Coast is famous - and Port O'Connor Texas fishing is still better. One has simply to drop a line off a pier or cast it into the waves from outside his Texas beach rental to reel in some of the very best catches to be had in the region. The fish run all year, but the price of a getaway rental will be substantially lower throughout the late fall and winter months.

Needless to say, beach homes including Port O'Connor cabin rental accommodations and Texas bed breakfast operations embody only a few of your options; you can find deluxe hotels and RV parks in the area also, all convenient to the area fishing grounds. It's certainly a great suggestion to reserve beach vacations well ahead of time to be able to prevent disappointment, as the part of the Gulf Coast attracts more visitors during the spring and summer than any other part of the state. You'll also get better rates on lodgings during the fall and winter months, as the weather will be more moderate.

POC (as the locals term it) and the surrounding area provides a variety of fishing experiences. Lying near to and with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico via Pass Cavallo, red snapper, ling cod, jack mackerel and trout are effortlessly obtained from atop the community's fishing pier or any of the local beaches. Farther out to sea, sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahimahi and wahu are plentiful.

The fee to charter a deep-sea fishing outing varies according to the size of the boat in addition to other variables, but generally average about $500 for a half-day trip and $1000 for a full eight-hour day. These charter boats can usually accommodate six to eight anglers, which can bring the individual costs down significantly. Bait and tackle is usually supplied, on the contrary fishermen will need to bring their own food and drink for the excursion.

An alternative to the deep sea charter ship is going to be to make your way out to one of the numerous abandoned oil-drilling platforms which remain offshore. Some of these are located within five miles of the coast and feature exceptional fishing for kingfish, red snapper and mahimahi. It's always advisable however to go with someone who is familiar with these abandoned rigs, as they can pose a certain amount of hazard to the inexperienced.

Individuals content to remain closer to land won't be disappointed, however; a big number of undeveloped estuaries, lakes, streams and of course rivers offer excellent fly fishing possibilities in addition to shrimping. Saltwater fishing can still be enjoyed from shore even as the water gets choppy, thanks to the various protected hot spots within the area, including Espiritu Santo Bay and a number of other jetties that have been constructed around POC for this purpose.

Fishermen with a competitive side will be pleased to learn that during the summer months, fishing tournaments are held around the region almost every weekend.

Shad fish are claimed to be the best bait to use to catch the striper. Shad are not good without after catching they are placed in a bait tank that is equipped with an aerator and filter system. There Are The Features For Igloo Marine Coolers

By Chaz Sheraton

For a super powerful cooler, you can't surpass the Igloo marine coolers. Igloo's Marine Series coolers are regarded as the best in class for marine ice chests. They have all the features fishermen want most, including a white color with UV inhibitors to withstand prolonged exposure to sun, sand and surf. They range from the very small, lightweight ones to the extremely large ones that can hold almost almost 200 cans plus ice, and keep it for several days. You won't have to have anything else for keeping things cold on the go.

The extremely large models are ideal for extra seating arrangements. They can hold the weight of a couple of grown men with no problem. Even the smaller sizes can handle a single individual. They make excellent row seats as well as comfortable seating for leisure in the boat. Cushions are made for each size. They are very comfortable, especially the larger ones.

There are many characteristics that make these coolers a great addition to your fun activities. You can measure the length of any fish you catch with the molded-in ruler. Larger models allow a two liter bottle to stand upright, avoiding messes from spilling. You know how the pressure builds and even tightly sealed bottles can leak when stored on their side.

All models come with fold-up handles for ease of carrying, and have tie down loops. You can order separate tie down kits that attach to your boat and have straps to run through the handle and securely tie down it and any cargo stored on top. There will be no danger of loss with this system. This makes it very convenient for rough waters.

The material used to make these coolers contains UV inhibitors to make the withstand sun and water conditions that ruin others that don't have it. For use around water and sun, this is essential. They will last longer and you won't have to replace them so often.

The costs not bad at all. Even the huge ones, with all the added features are relatively inexpensive. The little sizes compare very close to other, more cheaply build brands. They have many added features just like the large ones, and are build just as sturdily. The major way they are different is in capacity and availability of cushions to turn them into additional seats.

Special features make these out of the ordinary for your fun time. Some have wheels for ease in transporting, and some even have cutting boards built in, as well as an area to store vegetables or things like fishing gear. They are thickly insulated and build entirely of commercial materials suitable for marine use. All metal components are made of stainless to withstand rust and other water damage. Their super thick insulation and two layers of shell help them keep foods and ice save for days.

There are replacement parts such as hinges, latches, and handles. With these making it possible to repair accidents or wear to your favorite cooler, the Igloo Marine Coolers can last almost a lifetime. So, even if the initial cost is a little bit more, they are well worth it. Most coolers have to be replaced fairly often, but not these coolers. With the hardiness of their construction, and the replacement parts for repairs, they last virtually forever.

Is Financing A Fishing Boat Smart?

By Mike Relahs

Whatever you do, make sure you've carefully thought out what your expenses are going to be. You don't want to spend all of your money on just the boat itself. When you purchase the boat, you'll need to have enough money for taxes, registration, storage, towing insurance, gas, equipment, and even minor repairs if your boat requires them.

When buying a fishing boat, used or new, cash is always better than financing. And you can save money with cash, as there are no finance charges. Financing charges can get high, very high in fact if you don't know a lot about it.

Have you decided to buy a fishing boat? Have you decided on how you are going to pay for it. This type of purchase will involve some type of financing, whether it's a credit line through the home, an unsecured loan, or a boat line. Choosing the right financing source can be just as important as choosing the right boat.

When choosing a source of financing, there are several things to consider. The first factor is how long you plan to keep the boat. If you are buying a first boat, it'll make more sense to find a loan that will be flexible enough for an early payoff via private party or even a trade in.

If you are purchasing your dream boat, you should think about financing for a long term. A fixed rate loan with terms that have for a low monthly payment will be easier on your monthly budget.

Another factor you'll need to consider is the down payment. Most lenders or dealers would like to see at least ten percent down. Zero down payments do exist for those with good enough credit. Normally, the down payment doesn't significantly change the monthly payment for your boat loan.

Choosing the right type of boat loan is a very important part of the entire buying process. You can start with a boat finance brokerage, which will show you how each one of the available options fit into your profile.

Doing this will give you the knowledge and ability you need to find the loan that best fits you and your budget. The, you can concentrate on the important things - taking your new boat out on the water.

Advice On How To Haul Salmon Using Nets

By Mary Cubero

To enjoy the thrill that comes with fishing, it is time that you tried salmon fishing. The adrenaline rush that comes with hauling a big catch of salmon is just unbelievable.

However, it is important to note that fishing for salmon is not like other types of fish. Laying our bait as well as reeling in the catch calls for skills and experience that only takes time to learn. To get you started, the article offers some insight on how to go about it.

Of uttermost importance, is the gear that you choose? Due to decrease in prices, it is easy to be ripped off when in the market for fishing tackle. To get the best value for your money, buy your gear from a leading tackle shop. You will not only benefit from price and quality but also expert advice on what to select for your expedition.

Secondly, the pole length matters a lot. It is recommended that whilst in the market for one, go for one that measures approximately nine or ten feet. Furthermore, make certain that the reel is strong enough to withstand the pressure from the haul. This will ensure that less time is spent in untangling the net.

Getting a sizeable catch, hinges on how you cast your bait in the water. Be certain that the bait is deep in the water.

Fourthly, given that you will need to wade deep into the river waters, ensure that the waders purchased are of good quality to guard against leaking.

In conclusion, take time to read the laws regarding salmon fishing. Different parts of the US have varying laws regarding fishing for salmons. For instance, there are seasons when fishing is not permitted. In addition, the type, size and bait used may be subject to law. To get more insight on the laws, request for a copy from the tackle store you are shopping from.

You can only experience the fun and thrill if only you take time to prepare in advance.

The Range Available To Kit Out And Inspire The Newcomer Is Highly Extraordinary

By Justine Swallow

Last evening I was looking with some indifference through the catalogue distributed by a celebrated chain shop and I stumbled across the pages advertising fishing tackle. I was really completely impressed by a few of the deals detailed on kits of gear, mostly targeted at those interested in taking up angling.

It was very different to what was open when I was a youngster. Then, the main shop to go to was Woolworths, to peruse the Winfield label which was, frankly, rubbish. They tended to come apart somewhat quickly but the good thing was that by the time they did, one was primed to get better bait and tackle anyway, or you had chosen to desist with angling anyway.

I have zero doubt that the bait and tackle sets that the catalogue chain offer are of pretty ordinary quality, which is of course ideal for the beginner. Things like float sets will possibly last for a very long time and be handy for any angler wanting to restore misplaced fishing tackle, but for fathers or uncles aiming to introduce younger family members to the enjoyment of angling, these collections are excellent.

There is also a psychological plus to be found in retaining the interest of the newly inducted maggot drowner, which is that, if they choose to have a crack and find pals who are keen, to make off for the towpath with a whole set of bait and tackle will gather approving glances all round and instill a feeling of wellbeing which will be always associated with fishing.

Naturally there will need to be lots of proper instruction beforehand in order to make sure that he or she knows how to set up the fishing tackle with some skill before allowing them to go off on their own exploits. I well recall my initial trip out, which was an inter-troop fishing match with the scouts. I had only been out a couple of times with my uncle and finished up getting into the most awful muddles and losing most of my fishing line as a result. It was most embarrassing as I spent almost the entire afternoon trying to unpick a parade of cats' cradles, then getting frustrated and cutting the line and starting again.

This is not the way to encourage unsullied blood into the pastime. angling can be a complex process, and for newcomer has to be shown how to correctly setup the fishing tackle before going out on their own.

And for this purpose, the sort of bait and tackle kits are perfect to give the desire to learn the finer skills.

Important Fishing Basics For Anglers Both Newbies And Experienced

By Gene Pangan

Regardless you're a beginner or an experienced one when it comes to fishing there are some things that are really worth bringing along. If you're just starting out, you'll have to know about some items that will be of great help to you besides a fishing rod, a fishing reel, some line and some bait. If you're going to ask old-timers, they'll tell you more about protecting yourself, tips on getting more fish and other things that will come in handy.

While watching people fish, you'll never truly learn how much you need to wear those gloves that fishermen usually wear till you are going fishing yourself. Grasping your fly fishing rod for hours and lifting up fishes, especially the huge and jumpy ones might put your hands at risk of getting bruises, sores and calluses as a result of friction. Also, your hands can be particularly more prone if you're an amateur.

Another reason why you require fishing gloves is that fish could have sharp parts on them such as their fins, gills and scales that can can cut you if you're not wearing any hand protection. If you are going to pick a set of gloves, a good move is to go for those made of neoprene, Kevlar or fleece, depending on what fish are you going to tackle and where you are fishing.

You can check out for lots of superb glove offers at Amazon. You will want to consider gloves from Glacier suitable for ice fishing, all-weather gloves from Rapala, and abrasion-resistant pairs from Lindy and Weston. See them all and choose whatever suits your needs best.

Next, if you want to know where the fish usually are, you can try getting among the best fishfinders. Fishfinders are digital devices that parts of them are sunk underwater and from there the devices release sonar wavelengths and this wavelength will rebound back to the device once it discover the areas where schools of fish congregate. With these, you may be sure what you are up to and where you need to be going just not to come up empty handed. It's okay if you're an amateur and you are still clueless about where your targets are underwater because so long as you have these gadgets, your time and cash invested for your fishing tools would be worthwhile.

Garmin, the same trademark that provides you excellent and efficient sport watches also gives you clear and easy to use fishfinders. Other superb brands which are steadily getting great feedback are the brands Hummingbird and Eagle Cuda. Why not check them out now and begin to invest for larger catches with your upcoming fishing journeys?

Finally, do not forget to bring along some mobile fish weighing scales so that you can easily and meticulously weigh up your catches. There's nothing like landing a biggie and being able to brag about the exact weight. Apart from the accomplishment, you can also have a great time comparing the weight of your catch versus your companion's catch. Some great brand names that give accurate weights and provide much convenience are Berkley, American Weigh and Newline so be certain that you don't miss on these.

Get Yourself Fully Prepared For Fishing With These Angling Necessities

By Gene Pangan

Here's a trivial reminder for those who have got intentions of fishing soon. So you have your fishing poles and fishing reels now set? How about other things like accessories, items where to store your gear and containers for putting in your baits? Go through on these to find great advice about these items.

As far as catching fish is concerned it isn't the hook, line, fishing rod and reel that account for great catches but essential baits as well. In order for you to entice in fish, you'll have to be geared up with appealing baits that have fresh, convincing smells and looks. Fish are usually discriminating, you know and that's because the sea is totally full of foods for them. Nevertheless there are occasions that no matter how effective your baits are, they simply fail you to find you a bite and that's because of the absence for a good bucket to save them. So never play down the importance of the best place to preserve your baits.

If you're going to consider Amazon, you'll easily find bait buckets of all sorts and sizes from Plano, Min-02-Life, Turbo Troll, Frabill and Quick Minnow. They're the ideal ones around so if you'd like the best quality buckets for your lures, don't forget to get your hands on these. They're quite reasonably priced too so better check them out now.

Ok, let's assume you eventually carted up your catch. The next things you are going to need are some fillet knives. The length of what you are going to need relies on the extent of the fish that you are going for. For instance, if you are set to get the large ones, then you'll fare better by taking longer knives. On the other hand, if what you're looking for are reasonably sized fish, then short chef's knives can provide you the flexibility you want.

Several of the finest names in terms of high-quality fillet knives are Victorinox (the same brand that first brought you the internationally renowned Swiss army pocket knives), Gerber (renowned for its legendary cutters), Kershaw, Winchester and Zwilling. They're all sold at Amazon so be sure you have taken your pick among these for cutting up the take-home package after taking photos of your fishing trophy.

Other things which you should really consider are good tackle boxes. I bet you've found yourself in the situation where you really need something immediately but you still need to deal with locks, drawers, or what have you. When it comes to fishing, it really pays to have everything readily accessible so you don't waste time and let the fish get away. For all your fishing stuff laid out just the way you want and need them, get something from the best names when it comes to tackle boxes, namely: Plano and Berkley. Invest in good fishing equipment now and you'll be delighted with the results of your future fishing trips.

Introducing The Use Electric Boat Winches

By David Borderson

At some point in their careers, the people that are into the boat or related business will usually ponder over whether they should get the electric boat winches or remain with the manual ones. The electric winches far outshine the manual devices when it comes to their functionality, and as a result they are preferred by most people. The other reason why a lot of people will usually go for them is their ease of usage.

The machines will usually have an upper hand as compared to the manual ones because they greatly increase efficiency during loading at the docks. Their speed of loading is one of the major reasons why people prefer them to their manual counterparts.

The other reason why most people usually shun the manual winches is that they usually require you to use lots of energy to be able to use them. This turns out to be quite a disappointment to those people that have heavy boats as they usually waste a lot of time. The electric device is also preferred especially because it also allows you a free hand to steer.

Before you decide on which device to buy, make sure that you have in mind the specifications of your boat so that you can buy the winch that can fully support it. You might be surprised at the number of people that actually go ahead and make purchases without even considering this.

Make sure you evaluate the pull ability of the device you want. The best machine must have a pull capacity of 75% or more of the combined weight of the boat, motor, fuel and gear, and will serve you a lot better than most.

There are also some specific devices that will come in handy with the inclusion of a fail-safe option to act as backup plan. This means that there is a hand crank that you can use in the event that the electric winch fails to work. This way, it becomes easier for you to keep load even if the device fails to work.

Last but not least, it is a good idea to make sure that you keep your winch under constant maintenance as should be done with all machines. By doing this, you will be protecting yourself and others around you from unnecessary accidents and keeping your winch operating at optimal capacity. These devices will generally make your life much easier and thus should be a must have.

Things To Know About Electric Outboard Motors

By David Borderson

If we have ever been sailing before then we might be the sort of people who are absolutely crazy about this sport. This is the reason why we want to make sure that we cannot only navigate the boat well on the sea but also in a harbour. To do so we need to have a good engine that can move the boat forward instead of the sails. The ideas in the following paragraphs will tell us about the things we need to know about electric outboard motors.

The biggest advantage of these engines is that they are much greener and they can be charged at any location that has got electricity. Using the electricity to operate the engine is much cheaper than using fuel as oil prices are rising in recent years. Furthermore some countries tax those boats that do not meat certain environmental levels. Such level can be much easier reached with this clean source of energy.

If one has never purchased this product before then he might feel a bit overwhelmed with this task. The best thing to do is to talk to someone who is an experienced sailor and can help with this issue. Obviously, the best option is to talk to a family member if one of them knows a lot about this topic. They cannot only provide one with information about engines but also about the best places to buy them.

Using the world wide web to find out more about such motors and engines can be very useful as there are some excellent forums and blogs that are used by expert sailors. They share their thoughts their and one can learn a lot from them about this type of motor. Obviously, we need to watch out as there are some people who do not know much about this topic, yet they give advices.

The world wide web can also be used to find the best deal on the market. The truth is that the internet has got access to millions of websites that are specialised in selling this type of motor. Hence, we have a very good chance to find the perfect deal for ourselves.

One can also visit the shops in his are a or in his town and talk the shop assistants. The advantage of this method is that he will get advice from real experts and can see the various engines for himself.

Having read the article one should have understood the information on electric outboard motors. Further information can be found on the internet.

The single most important question to ask yourself when buying a fishing boat

By Mike Relahs

The first thing you should consider when choosing a boat is that no single boat will do everything. If your searching for a boat that inspires confidence, don't expect it to shine in light air. Boats that are exciting to pilot on the weekends aren't the ideal boats for a passage through the ocean.

You shouldn't expect to find load carrying capacity and shallow draft together with the same boat. You can buy a boat now to carry several people or shallow water fishing. You can only do one or the other with a specific type of boat.

The logic to choosing the right boat is determining how you plan to use the boat. Think about why you want to own a boat, what you plan to do with it, and how you plan on using it.

For some fishermen, beauty is the first consideration. For fishing boats sleek design is very important, as you'll spend a majority of time floating and fishing, with many people looking at your fishing boat. With people looking at your vessel, you want to make sure that it looks nothing short of amazing.

If you are planning to fish tournaments instead of cruise, then speed is your primary consideration. There are many cruising fishermen out there who simply can't be happy unless their boats are moving very fast. The ideal boat for speed demons are those that can cut through the water, and get to the ideal fishing holes quickly.

Many fishermen on the other hand, want to look towards multi-purpose fishing boats. Trackers and other boats that are designed for fishing are ideal here. Fishing is one of the most popular boat activities, meaning that you'll have plenty of boats to select from.

When it comes down to it, selecting the right boat is up to you and what you plan to do with it. Take your time, weigh your options, and you'll have the right boat before you know it.

Beginners Guide To Fishing Tackle

By Lawson Q. Miles

Why does one person desire to learn how to fish while another person doesn't? I'm sure most people don't have a clue as to why they like to fish or what prompted them to do it in the first place. Whatever the reason, each year multitudes of people take up the sport of fishing. Some of these newcomers will take off to their local sporting goods store or Wal-Mart to buy their first Rod, Reel and Fishing Tackle.

Should you find yourself in this boat (pun intended), then I'm here to share some fishing tackle tips you'll want to follow before running out and buying every piece of glittery fishing tackle that catches your eye. Discovering how to become a successful fisherman is not hard.

You need to understand that most fish are predators and will eat any number of things. If it looks like a baitfish, acts like a baitfish or smells like a batifish, it's in danger of ending up on their menu. Fishing isn't nearly as complicated as many of the so-called Guru's would have you to believe. They're just trying to sell products for their Sponsors. I learned this lessons the hard way many years ago. My Buddy and I were outfished on our local lake by an Old Man and his Grandkids using nothing more than Zebco 33's and minnows.

When they got out, they had a huge stringer of Black Bass. The biggest one was 6 and a half pounds and none were under 2 pounds. I walked over and asked the Old Man what they had used, seeing how my Buddy and I were skunked that morning and we had been using the latest equipment and lures on the Market. The Old Man smiled and showed me his Minnow bucket and said "Why we were using Bass Minnows and Worms"! I also couldn't keep from noticing their very simple rod and reels. They had out fished a couple local Pro's with simple bait and rod and reel set-ups!

The basic fishing equipment you'll need to start catching Bass is a Rod and Reel, line and bait. That's all there is to it. As for rods and reels, your local sporting goods store or Wal-Mart has an excellent selection. I'd suggest a Rod and Reel combo like the Zebco 33 and a matching rod. This should set you back about $25 or so.

Leave the Spinning and Bait Casting reels such as the ABU's and Shimano's for a little later. They take some experience to use. For now, you just want to focus on catching Bass! A spincast reel is an excellent reel to start with.

As for line, the stuff that comes on a Zebco 33 is good to start out with. If you need to replace it, get a good quality 10 pound line like Berkly Trilene or Stren. 10 pound test is good to begin with and will haul the biggest Bass out of the water with a little patience.

Next comes the bait. Again, there's no use in getting complicated here. Just ignore all the boasting and B.S.ing from the marketing material and you'll be fine. For live bait fishing, start by selecting hooks in the 1/0 to 3/0 range. Eagle Claw makes excellent live bait hooks. Get a selection of weights and Balsa bobbers and you're set for live bait fishing. For artificial bait, you only need a few selections. Plastic grubs with curly tails in the colors of forage fish are good choices. I like White, Yellow, Black and Blue or Green. Grab up a silver Johnson spoon and a Rapala swimming minnow and you'll be set. Make sure you look at the rod to see what range of lure weights it's rated for. Don't get lures too heavy for your rod.

Believe it or not, that's it. Sure, you may need a minnow bucket, a stringer and a tackle box, but those are cheap. Just make sure you don't go overboard! This set up will catch many types of fish from Bass to Catfish. Once you get some experience under your belt, you can then start trying other things like level wind reels, plastic worms or crank baits.

Making The Most Out Of Key West Fishing Charters

By Goldie Acevedo

With a little bit of forethought, Key West fishing charters can easily provide the ultimate sporting entertainment. There are a few things to think about before the trip begins, however, including the types of fish that are sought, how to stay within the legal parameters, and which charter company to select.

The sportsman's challenge

There is no arguing with the fact that this area boasts some of the most combative fish in the world. Some, like the king mackerel, are seen at sizes that are sure to thrill fishermen of all persuasions. Fishermen who visit the region in the winter will find an abundant supply of these challenging opponents.

For those who want to try their skills with the real heavyweights of the water, the two-thousand pound marlin is the perfect choice. These fish can be as long as twelve feet, and have enough strength to ensure that the warm-weather fishermen who encounter them have their skills thoroughly tested.

And then there is the sailfish. Weighing in at more than a hundred pounds, these agile swimmers are often seen performing dazzling acrobatic feats high above the water as well. Noted for their speed and entertainment value, the sailfish are a popular choice throughout the first six months of every year.

Understand the legalities

Of course, a basic understanding of the laws that are in play for this region can prevent an enjoyable chartered experience from becoming a legal nightmare. Learn the proper seasons for catching the different types of fish, and take a few minutes to become familiar with the legal catch limits, minimum sizes, and weights.

Finding a charter

The charter boat and crew are important parts of any enjoyable excursion in the area. Make sure that the boat is fully licensed, and decide in advance what type of crew you want to work with. While many fishermen prefer an experienced crew that knows where the best fish live, younger fishermen sometimes prefer a crew that is more open to a party environment on the water.

In addition, any group of fishermen should ensure that they are all in agreement about the reason for the trip. When half of the party wants to catch fish and the other wants merely to drink and party, it can make for a very disruptive outing. On the other hand, a unified party that is well-prepared for the obstacles ahead will find that Key West fishing charters are always an entertaining and memorable experience.

Minn Kota Talon Anchoring System Takes Pole Anchoring To A New Higher Level

By Mike Relahs

Minn Kota (MK) has introduced its Talon shallow water pole or spike anchoring system. Unlike other brands of pole anchoring brands, the Minn Kota Talon anchoring system is based on an electro-mechanical, rather than hydraulic, design. MK believes this is a significant point of differentiation since it makes its system quieter, easier to install, more durable and quicker to deploy. Like other pole anchors, it is also environmentally friendly causing little to no damage to vegetation on the bottom. Cabelas Talon anchoring system comes with a full manufacturers warranty.

Shallow water anglers will be familiar with pole anchors. They have been marketed for many years now. Thousands of systems have been purchased by satisfied anglers around the globe. They are a well-proven product based on a solid concept that has been tried and tested. Overall, the MK product claims superior performance compared to existing competitors.

Talon allows anglers to quickly and quietly stop and position their boat right where the fish are biting. The system allows anglers to fish more productively without wasting unnecessary time fiddling with the anchor.

The MK anchor brings new capabilities to users, capabilities not supplied by competing pole anchors. Perhaps the most valuable of these new features is a fully automatic Up-Down control directive for deploying the anchor. This capability involves a simple one-touch press of a button to initiate an automatic deployment routine, start-to-end. This one-touch capability avoids the need to hold a button continuously until the anchor is deployed.

Stowing is just as just as easy. It also is achieved with a quick one-touch button press. Talon can be operated from the control panel or wireless remote control pad.

Importantly, the product provides a solid and secure holding power, the most powerful holding force in its class. The exclusive auto drive feature drives the pole into the bottom using a trio of successive drives. Each drive is powered by a stronger force. The aim of this three-hit process is to drive the pole deeper with more grip than any competing product.

A set of LED indicator light panel that estimates, in one-foot intervals, the depth to which the anchor has been deployed. As a safety feature, an alarm warns the skipper if the outboard engine is started while the pole remains deployed.

The Minn Kota Talon anchoring system is available with either a six-foot four-inch spike or an eight-foot four-inch spike. It is available in two shades, black or white. All models come standard with two wireless remote controls as standard equipment. Top-rated Cabelas can provide you with KM trolling motors Talon anchoring systems and many more outdoor products to make your adventures more fulfilling.

The Primary In Being Familiar With Binoculars

By Ricardo Peters

If you are a hunter, bird watcher, astronomer, or any other user of binoculars, the tips on this page may help you pick the best quality binoculars to your purposes. Adhering to are three significant top quality aspects you ought to examine before selecting a set of binoculars.

To begin with, you will need to pick the magnification energy of your binoculars. The most typical magnifications vary from 7-12. More isn't automatically better, though. The larger the magnification power of your binoculars, the greater apparent the shaking of one's hands becomes. For many uses, 8x is a great magnification to select. Should you go over 10x, you should look at obtaining a tripod.

Next, you will need to pick the objective diameter to your binoculars. All the other things being equal, the bigger the objective diameter, the brighter the picture you see through the binoculars. For many uses, locate a goal diameter which is 5 times the magnification power. If you possess a set of binoculars with 8x magnifying, they ought to possess an objective diameter of 40. A pair of binoculars with these specs is usually called "8x40".

So if you have a pair of binoculars with 8x magnification, they should have an objective diameter of 40. A pair of binoculars with these specs is generally called "8x40". If you plan on using your binoculars in low light conditions, you may want to get an even higher objective diameter, such as 8x50. Do keep in mind that a larger objective diameter will generally increase the size and weight of the binoculars.

In addition, you ought to take notice of the coating from the lenses on your binoculars. The covering significantly reduces reflected and fragmented light with your binoculars, and so improves, the illumination and quality of the image. You can find four terms typically used to identify the lens coating. These are, in order that least attractive to best: coated, multi coated, fully coated, fully multi coated.

It doesn't matter what you want to do with your binoculars, focusing on these three points when you obtain will greatly enhance your odds of having the best pair of binoculars!

Information About Coastal Fishing In North Carolina

By Mike Relahs

If you are visiting the beautiful state of North Carolina, there is no better way to obtain an authentic cultural experience, then to rent a charter boat and go coastal fishing in North Carolina. The state of North Carolina is lined with almost 4,000 miles of shoreline due to its many bays, islands, rivers and sand bars, so the obvious activity among its local residents is fishing.

Do not worry if you are new to fishing, because there are many activities and boat rentals geared towards taking people out on their first fishing adventure. You can even rent a boat that is equipped with a captain, food, drinks, and maybe even a Jacuzzi, to make your fishing experience an exciting adventure you will not soon forget.

Due to the plentiful tidal shorelines in North Carolina, there are a variety of different fishing areas to choose from. If you are a fan of Mahi Mahi and Tuna, then offshore fishing is the way to go. There is generally a huge abundance of fish in this area because of the Gulf Stream, which brings with it a bunch of juicy fish hungry for bait!

Just think, you could start your day by heading out on a charter boat before sunrise, and end it by grilling up the fish you and your family caught during your inshore fishing trip. Inshore fishing is fun for beginners because the calm, protected waters make fishing a little bit easier and a little more fruitful as well. You can catch flounder, redfish, or even trout!

Try checking online for daily updates of the local waters in North Carolina. Knowing where certain types of fish are swimming on a day to day basis is a great way of saving time, and getting some real, rewarding fishing done.

When you head out on your charter boat for you first fishing experience, try inviting along an old family friend who has been fishing the North Carolina waters for years. An experienced fisherman is invaluable when it comes to giving advice and helping you improve your fishing techniques. No amount of studying the logistics of fishing can trump the wisdom of an experienced fisherman!

Patience is one character trait that is absolutely going to come in handy while out on the boat fishing. Bring along some friends or a good book to pass the time while you wait for an oblivious fish to pick up your bait. Once you have got a big one on the line, that is when you have got to really go for it and use your strength and strategy.

For those who just want to spend a day with their family, coastal fishing in North Carolina, without the extravagance of heading out on a charter boat, pier fishing is the perfect activity.

At Last It Appears That The Better Weather Is Imminent From The Indicators In The Gardens Today

By Jon Izzard

Say it hushedly and with care - Spring may be knocking on the doors! I delivered my little boy to kindergarten this afternoon and in the flowerbeds along the road there were undoubtedly crocuses in bloom. Also, daffodils seem to be heaving their way into the February air as well as the bluebells at the end of my front garden. It's so exciting, at last after the dull vileness of winter after xmas, it appears as at last there is a motive to be chipper. And, bringing the moment that I go back to the canal and go angling may genuinely be here.

I have never been afraid to declare that I'm, and always have been, a fair-weather maggot drowner. And especially because I haven't been fishing in a very long time, having got the desire to start again there was no chance I was going to set out for a trial excursion when I'd have needed to wrap up like Ernest Shackleton and discourage myself forever. Also, I would not have wanted to spend much money on bait and tackle if I wasn't sure that I was going to make a decent fist of it first.

It'd make sense for me to go out to the waterside with a pal, go halves on bait and tackle and hopefully be able to use a guest ticket before I spend out on membership of the Birmingham Angling Association which is what is needed to be allowed to go fishing on the towpaths close to here, as well as the rod licence that I will require from the Department of Environment. The two of those will be the wrong side of 50 before anything else, so I need to be definite that I will still be able to enjoy it.

One thing I am going to enjoy is mooching around bait and tackle outlets. I love little, local, dedicated outlets who have the local expertise, who can guide intelligently from first hand knowledge and be the best source of news about angling in the locale regarding what is being caught and where.

So, if it is correct that Spring is nearly with us (and it is a marvellous sunny day today too) then I want to do what I have been promising myself for weeks, organise a trip with my mate, get to the fishing shop and go angling.

Winter Time Crappie Are Easy To Catch

By Randy Wilmeraner

If you haven't tried Winter Crappie fishing, you're missing out on one of the most productive and reliable times to catch this tasty panfish. Finding Crappie during the Winter months is the hard part. But with a fish finder, a little knowledge and some time on your favorite body of water, you can be catching Crappie when other anglers are at home in front of the fireplace.

Once you have discovered the Crappie pattern for your local body of water, you can pretty much count on finding Crappie in the same areas regardless of where you are on the water. For example, if you find them suspended at 15 feet over 50 feet of water on a submerged river channel with brush, you'll likely find then at other areas of the lake suspended at 15 feet of water over deep brush.

Start your search for Winter Crappie along deep channels that have a lot of brush. Don't be surprised if you find the deep brush but the Crappie are suspended near the surface. This happens quite a bit during the Winter, especially on those warmer than normal days. Also be on the look out for man-made brush piles in deep water. These are Crappie magnets. You might even want to consider sinking a few yourself!

A good lake or river map showing the bottom details is a must for Winter Crappie fishing. Search for those brushy areas along submerged breaks. Although Crappie normally hold in deep water during the Winter, there are times you can find them shallow. This will usually occur after a few days of warm weather. Crappie are likely to be only a few feet deep over brush or you may find them on the flats relating to structure.

Use the right tackle for Crappie fishing in the Wintertime.

Winter Crappie fishing requires you to downsize your tackle. The same tackle you used back in the Summer and Spring will not be as effective in Winter. Light and Ultralight rods in the 6 to 7 foot range, small minnows or 1/32 ounce jigs and four pound test line are the norm. Crappie become sluggish and finicky in the Winter, and they won't chase bait. In fact, they want the bait right in front of their mouth during most of the Winter.

I like to use a light graphite spinning rod, four pound test line and small tube jigs or minnows to locate deep water Crappie holding in brush. My set up includes a 3/8ths weight tied to the bottom of my line with two drops space about 12 to 18 inches apart above the weight. This way, I'm able to "feel" my way around those deep brush piles.

When looking for Winter Crappie, my other terminal tackle includes small jigs, spinners and minnows. I use 2 to 4 pound test line. If using minnows, I'll use a #6 Tru Turn gold aberdeen hooks. Jigs or ice fishing spoons should be in the 1/32 and 1/64 ounce area. Crappie don't like large baits during the Winter, I'm not sure why but I've always caught more with small baits than with big baits and heavy line.

Makes sure you slow down your presentation. Winter Crappie do not move fast and will not chase your bait like they do in the Summer and Spring. Many times I've held my rod still to entice Crappie in a deep brushpile to bite.

Personal Flotation Devices Required for Boaters

By Kristen Wesch

Safety should be on the top of every boaters' checklist before heading out for a day of fun on the water. The United States Coast Guard sets minimum standards for safety equipment required to be on board all recreational boats. The personal flotation devices on board must be USCG approved and in good, serviceable condition in order to meet federal regulations.

All recreational boats are required, by law, to have a minimum of two PFD's on board a one-person boat, and one for each additional person. All vessels 16 feet or longer, with the exception of canoes and kayaks, must have at least one throwable (or Type IV) PFD on board.

There are four different types of wearable flotation devices, Type I, II, III and V. Be sure to choose the appropriate types for you and your passengers according to your boating environment. They must be readily accessible and able to be put on within a reasonable amount of time in case of an emergency. They should never be kept in plastic bags or a locked box, and should always be stored free of any other gear on top of them. Although not required by law, it is best for every passenger to wear a PFD at all times while the vessel is underway.

Type I, an off-shore jacket, is effective in all waters. Because it provides the most buoyancy of available PFD's it is more appropriate for open waters where rescue may be delayed. It has a turning action that keeps wearers face-up in the water, even if they are unconscious. There are two sizes available, 22 pounds buoyancy for adults, and 11 pounds buoyancy for children.

A type II PFD, or a near-shore jacket, is meant for use in calm, inland waters. Although it does have the turning action like a Type I, it is not quite as effective and may fail to turn some unconscious boaters face up. It is available in three sizes, 15.5 pounds buoyancy for adults, 11 for children and 7 for infants and small children.

Type III, a flotation aid, is also designed for inland water use where quick rescue is probable. It carries the same buoyancy rating as the Type II (15.5, 11 and 7 pounds) but does not have any turning action. The wearer must position him or herself face-up and may find it necessary to keep their head tilted back to keep from taking in water. The Type III is not as bulky and considered more comfortable for continuous wear. It also comes in a wide variety of colors, styles and sizes.

A Type V PFD is considered a special use PFD and is intended for specific activities and sports. It can be carried and used as an alternative to the other types, but must be used in a manner consistent to it's USCG labeling. Some type V PFD's protect against hypothermia as well which should be considered if you regularly boat in colder waters.

Lastly, the Type IV PFD is a throwable device. There must be at least one on every vessel over 16 feet in length and it must be visible and accessible at all times. It is designed to be thrown to a person in the water and held until help arrives. It is not designed to be worn, and is intended for use in high-traffic, calm waters where help is quickly and readily available.

Catching Salmon Using Nets

By Gail Garner

Given the number of rivers that find their way into the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, they form the perfect areas to fish for salmons. Year in year out, salmons migrate up and downstream to and from their breeding grounds.

In addition, the rivers provide you with assortment. Other than salmon, trout are also available in plenty and are easy to bring in when contrasted to salmon.

Other than salmon, trout are in plenty in most of the rivers and unlike salmon, are easy to fish. However, this takes out the fun in having a huge defiant salmon stuck on the fishing line

It is recommended that your nets be cast wide from the river's shores if you want a big catch. Alternatively, you can opt to wade deep into the river so as to get wider range of cast.

Nonetheless, you require skills and wits to haul a huge catch from the river.

Given the strength and size of the haul, it is possible to lose all your day's catch a few inches from the banks. As such, make certain that your line is strong enough to hold the catch while reeling it in.

During high seasons, there are plenty of salmon and as such you can be sure of a lasting experience at the end of the day.

In my fishing experience, never have I known better bait than salmon eggs. Due to their color, salmons are lured easily to where they are. However, use of live bait is prohibited by some local authorities and as such you need to be aware of the bylaws.

Least but important, cross check your gear to be certain that you have everything that you need. Nothing is more embarrassing than realizing you are out of a major supply when required the most.

Key West Tarpon Fishing Is Fishing At Its Best

By Bessie Rodgers

Most anglers equate Key West with paradise. Participating in a key west tarpon fishing tournament or enjoying a casual excursion is a dream come true for any fishing enthusiast. Saltwater sport fishermen and women, from around the globe, travel to the Keys for exciting angling excursions. Florida is one of the most popular places, among sportsmen, to fish for tarpon.

The Megalops atlanticus, or tarpon, lives off the western Atlantic coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. These fish have been caught as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Brazil. They are known to travel through the Panama Canal, also. During the early spring and summer, the fish migrate through the waters surrounding the Florida Keys. The fish are most abundant during this time. However, key west tarpon fishing is a year round sport. Tarpon prefer water temperatures between 72 and 82 degrees.

The silver king, or tarpon, is a powerful fish with a lot of attitude. It will not be taken aboard without a fight. It has a greenish-blue colored back and both of its sides are bright silver. The silver king has a mouth that is as hard as concrete. It is not easy to hook. Usually, sports fishermen use a heavy spinning rod and reel or fly rod gear when trying to hook this fish.

If hooked by an angler, the fish will leap into the air, spinning and jerking, attempting to free itself. It will fight for its freedom. A mature tarpon can weigh up to 350 pounds and measure up to 100 inches in length. Most measure between four feet and eight feet. Generally, they weigh between 80 pounds and 280 pounds. Silver kings provide a lot of fun and excitement for game fishermen.

There are many tournaments held in the Keys every year. The annual KWFT, or Key West Fishing Tournament, last 8.5 months, beginning in March and ending in November. The tournament offers various divisions for men, women, and younger participants. The tournament targets over 40 different species. There is a Kick Off tournament, which is scheduled the first weekend. It will be held on March 11-13, 2011.

Even though the silver king can grow quite large, it is not good for food. It is quite bony and does not produce much edible meat. In Florida, a specific permit is required to keep and kill a tarpon. Anglers adhere to the catch and release policy.

There are a number of great key west tarpon fishing charters available. Key West offers a wide variety of day and evening activities, as well. Sunset at Mallory Square should be enjoyed by every visitor.

Tarpon Fishing Charters Facts And Tips

By Bessie Rodgers

Tarpon fishing is a major sport in the deep sea fishing arena. Due to the fact that tarpon have no food value to humans they are used for catching and releasing sporting purposes. Here are some facts and useful information on tarpon fishing charters.

These silver kings, as they are otherwise known, as are huge game fish that have large silvery scales that swim mainly in the warm seas. Tarpon date back 125 million years ago and are regarded as prehistoric creatures. They feed on small fish and crustaceans and they swim inshore to lay their spawn in spring which creates a frenzy of fishermen.

Live or mock bait can be used when practicing this sport and should be done with the use of light tackle. Crabs, shrimp, mullet and pinfish are just a few examples of perfect bait which can be anchored with a weight into the ocean. Big top water baits, soft plastic baits as well as minnow mimicked baits can also be used when using mock bait.

When trying to catch these monsters you need to set your hook accordingly so that it is not too tight in order for the tarpon to easily take to the bait. The fish will break the line if the drag is set too tight. Use a stronger line if the fish keeps breaking the line.

It is essential for the fisherman to allow this strong fish some time to run a bit on the line before applying pressure. You need to know how to tie the best knots for this kind of fishing. Try to keep the head up as this stops them from trying to initiate another run.

This type of practice is based on catch and release as the fish are ancient dwellers of the sea and are regarded as precious resources that need to be kept intact. Circle hooks are perfect for catch and release methods as the fish are not hurt. They should not be over exhausted and should not be taken out of the water because this can kill them.

This practice has become a big sport amongst deep sea fishermen all over the world. Many competitions and events for experienced, as well as novice, deep sea fishermen have grown into major events. For more in depth information on various types of charters, visit a website or speak to a professional deep sea fishermen who is experienced in this type of practice.

Want To Start Ice Fishing? Here's What You Need

By Bill Miller

Ice fishing is a sport that can be done as a family. Unlike other Winter sports, it's cheap to get fixed up and with just a little bit of knowledge, a first-timer can be expected to catch some fish their first trip at the fishing hole.

If you've ever wondered into a Sporting Goods store and looked at all the ice fishing equipment, you could get overwhelmed pretty quickly. You might be wondering "What are the basics I need to get started ice fishing?" Well, the basics are pretty simple and inexpensive. You don't need all the high dollar fancy gear on the shelves to be a successful ice fisherman.

It's this reason alone that I created this collection of basic ice fishing tackle that you will need to start. What's more is that for less than what a Family of for can eat out at a steak house these days, you should be able to buy all the fishing equipment that a Newbie will need to begin fishing on the hard water.

Before you can even get a hook wet, you'll have to figure out how to get a hole in the ice. Enter the ice auger. For Panfish, you'll need a five to six inch auger. For larger species such as Pike and Walley, you'll want to get an eight to ten inch ice auger. If you really want to go cheap and don't mind a little hard work, get the manual ice auger, otherwise you might want to spend a little extra and get a power auger.

Tip ups and rods. Many fishermen bore a bunch of holes over rock piles, weed beds and other types of bottom structure and use tip ups to increase their chances of catching their limit of fish. Other fishermen prefer to ice fish with a reel and ice rod. For Beginners, I'd want a few tip ups along with a good rod so you can see which one catches the most fish in your area.

One crucial element of your fishing equipment you should not take lightly is your fishing line. Normal fishing line becomes brittle and will break easily in the frigid weather. You'll want to get fishing line that is meant for ice fishing. There are several on the market and your local bait store or Sporting Goods store should have a good selection.

Be sure to get some jigs and lures designed for ice fishing. Miniture jigs are a good choice for panfish. Also tear drop jigs and tiny spoons will come in handy when the panfish get finicky. As for bait, panfish love mealworms and spikes while larger fish such as Walleye prefer Worms or baitfish like smelt. Talk to the people at your local bait store to see what's a good choice for your fishing spot.

Unless you don't mind standing all day, you had better think about bringing something to sit on. Many ice fishermen simply use a 5 gallon bucket. This works great and you can put gear in it to haul it back to your vehicle. Some will bring lawn chairs but they're less practical. Some die hard ice fishermen will shell out considerably money and buy a ice hut and small heater. While expensive, these are very nice and make the coldest day on the lake enjoyable.

That's all you need to get started. Make sure you get a fishing license and read up on the regulations for the body of water you plan on going fishing at. Being fined for breaking a law can ruin any trip. Now go out and start drilling holes in the lake. Never forget the first rule of ice fishing, be safe and follow all the safety rules for getting Outdoors in the Winter.
