A Few Useful Fish Bait Tips

By Ed Vee

Fishing is undoubtedly one of the most popular and satisfying hobbies across the globe. A lot of individuals or groups of friends enjoy going on trips for the fun of it, but ultimately it is always much better to return with a good catch of fish. A few simple tips regarding bait will have a surprising effect on anyone's fishing techniques.

Fishing is reliant very much on the type of bait used. One may come across some who opt for feathers or colourful lures, but in practice it is much more advisable to use standard bait. The latter may take different forms, including worms, cheese or specific pastes. The most commonly used and generally praised bait is however live bait.

Live bait obviously refers to bait which is still alive, and which presents a much more satisfying prospect than dead bait. It is thus crucial to keep one's bait as lively as possible, since there would not be much difference between dead bait and nearly-dead bait. Keeping the bait water well oxygenated will aid the bait to stay alive.

Another useful thing to keep in mind is that the bait should be well presented. This implies that the hook being used to attach the bait is not overly evident or too big. The same argument goes for the fishing line, which should preferably be thin and strong. Fish are naturally much more attracted to a succulent-looking bait rather than an oversized hook with a tiny bait.

The bait's scent is another frequently overlooked factor. Human odor inevitably deters fish from approaching the bait, and since they have a very acute sense of smell you may be sure that they will trace the scent very easily. In order to stop your scent from tainting the bait, you may use scent-neutralizing soap or gel, or simply coat your hands in soil to mask the smell.

Applying the above tips will help you increase your chances to succeed. Fortunately, these simple techniques require no additional costs, and may be employed by anyone intent on improving his skills
