A Guide to Bait Boards and Fishing Equipment

By Xander Davenport

Berley Bucket: A Must Have Fishing Device

Catching a fish, whether game fishing or fishing for a living, lies in having a good berley trail. So next time you go fishing confirm your berley trail will attract fish around your bait. One key to having a good berley trail is to have the right berley bucket. These buckets can be rather expensive so you should invest your money in something that will truly serve its designated purpose and will serve you for a longer time.

When looking out for a berley bucket, check if it is suitable for you to use. There are buckets that are able to be permanently mounted on transoms and there are removable polyethylene buckets. Removable ones are advised for those who don't frequently go fishing. There are buckets OK for mounting in marlin boards. Buckets made out of wire are usually the best for river fishing as the steel construction can resist toothy fish. Berley buckets come in small or short size, medium, long, or very large size to suit different transom heights. Most buckets come along with strong aluminum berley muncher. Some buckets have holes that can and may be enlarged by yourself according on the desired size.

Most fishing equipment suppliers and stores carry berley buckets together with the other ship and fishing hardware. In your hunt for the ideal bucket for your boat, find one that's durable and crack resistant and can adjust to different weights to suit the changing tidal conditions. Look for a berley bucket that is made of UV stabilized polyethylene so it can resist salt water and sunlight.

But except for finding the right bucket, don't forget to mount your berley bucket correctly else it will not function the way that it should. It is usually recommended that you mount it on a sliding bracket and ensure that the bottom part is slightly above the bottom of your ship.
