If you have never been fishing you don't know what you're missing. Fishing for sport, recreation, relaxation, and an occasional meal is called sport fishing, or angling. Angling is one of the most popular forms of recreation in the world. Here are a few reasons why you should start learning how to fish.

In our current terrible economy many people have been laid off or are other wise unemployed. If you are in that group of people, fishing will give you something to do. Fishing gives you some place to go where you can think alone or visit with other anglers. Angling is a more constructive activity than hanging out in a bar or on the street. Visiting with other anglers, while being outdoors may bring you new perspectives on your troubles.

Fishing is also a fantastic way to reduce stress. In our society, with all the pressures of daily life, people are extremely stressed out. Fishing provides an activity where you can be outdoors in a relaxing environment. There is no stress or competition, especially if you remember you are fishing , not catching. This is an activity where you can leave all your trials and tribulations at home or the office and just enjoy the simple pleasures.

If you are unemployed, fishing can provide a source of food. Fresh caught fish is a real treat in today's society where most all of our fish have been frozen. Many of today's youth think of fish as a breaded rectangle that is a golden color. Eating fresh fish is an excellent source of protein that contains little or no fat. Having this superb source of food available for free at the closest lake or river is a marvelous reason to learn how to fish. Fishing gives you a reason to be outside in the fresh air and sun. Today many people live their lives entirely indoors. The only time they venture out is to travel from home to work and back again. They pass their free time sitting in front of the television or the computer. fishing, outdoors in the sun gives you vitamin D which you need. You may want to wear some form of sunscreen to prevent sunburns. But the fresh outside air helps clear your lungs of the recycled air found in homes, offices and stores.
