Go To Lake Cumberland Striper Fishing Contest

Many vacationers enjoy the water sports while the avid fisherman goes to win the trophy for the biggest catch. Lake Cumberland striper fishing and trophy event brings many fishermen to the area to participate in tournaments. The biggest catch in Kentucky weighed in at nearly sixty pounds. That record has yet to be broken.

Visiting Lake Cumberland, Kentucky is with out question the greatest place to spend a vacation. The lake is surrounded by beautiful, breath taking scenery and is located not far from Daniel Boone National Forest.

The lake, known as the houseboat capitol of the world, has pontoon boat rental facilities, a huge marina and scores of boat slips. The southern Kentucky lake area is the ideal place to visit for a family vacation, and in fact has more visitors each year than Yellow Stone National Park.

Kentucky fishing licenses are required to fish on Cumberland. They can be bought at any bait shop in the area, or ordered online from many of the Cumberland lake web sites. There is also a Sunday night radio broadcast that tells of weather conditions, water levels and which fish are running.

Guides with well equipped boats are available to assist the novice fisherman. Prices for guides are posted on lake websites. Many men who devote their skills as guides to novice and experienced fishermen have over twenty years fishing experience. They are familiar with the waters and know where the fish are playing on any given day. The guides specialty is striper fishing and host scores of how to catch ideas.

Live shad is the best bait to use when fishing for striper bass in the fresh water lake. However, without proper tanks to store the shad they die quickly and are no longer useable. It is important to keep them in a bait tank that has an aerator and filter system.

The fish die within an hour after being caught if they are not in a tank. A minnow bucket or that of sorts will not suffice the needs of the shad.

Late August through October the bass are migrating and come out to the points. Lake Cumberland striper fishing is worthy during this particular time. When fishing on the points live crawfish is the best bait to use. During the fall months stripers come to the surface to catch minnows and shad. There are plenty of striper bass in the lake throughout the seasons. After an exciting day of fishing relaxing at the rustic lodge may seem inviting. The lodge is fully equipped with all the amenities of home.
