Sometimes the rigorous schedule of work and life can get us stressed, or even worse, depressed. At times the best thing we can do for ourselves and our health is escape on a relaxing and planned vacation. There are few things more relaxing than standing in a pristine river, listening to the sounds of the water crashing against the rocks and trying to catch fist. One of the best kept secrets of the United States is the healing and relaxing nature of gunnison fly fishing. You do not have to have experience with fly fishing to get started in this traditional hobby.

Located in Colorado, Gunnison offers a unique fly fishing experience. The fishing area is as pristine as the day it was created. The landscape is absolutely breath taking because the area is set in the mountains for which Colorado is known. Veteran fly fishermen across the country make the trek to fish in these waters because according to them it is some of the best you will ever find.

According to local reports, the prime hours for fish catching are between 9 in the morning and 7 in the evening. The best dates and your best chances for a big haul are between June 20 and August 20, however the season opens up in March and goes all the way to Halloween before it ends for the year. If you stake out a spot between Almont and Cooper Ranch on the river your chances will increase for catching some real beauties. It is always a good idea to plan your fishing trips well in advance.

Fly fishing is a well known hobby or interest in America and it brings to mind movies and books like 'A River Runs Through it.' Fly fishermen tie their own lures in most cases and they are usually made from string, fur, hair or a number of similar materials. The lures are supposed to look like insects which the fish are going to want to eat.

The water which runs through this river is remarkably clear the majority of the time and you can see into the water up to 36 inches on average. You will witness all kinds of aquatic life as you stand in the river and enjoy the experience. During the fishing season the water temperature normally holds at about 56 degrees Fahrenheit, an average temperature which some experts call ideal for catching fish.

If you are a rookie angler and would appreciate some help, there are guides and pros all around the area to help make your experience a memorable one. These men and women know the river and the nature of the fish well and are more than happy to offer advice.

Even if you are just beginning to take up this hobby which has been called the Contemplative Man's recreation, look into visiting Colorado and experiencing Gunnison fly fishing.
