By Hannah Gordon

Vacations are one thing everyone can agree is a good thing, and most of us want to go somewhere very different from home. Another common denominator for resting and relaxing is sun and surf. A Key West tarpon fishing trip has all of that and more.

It might be surprising to find that manager or line workman, the sport of angling appeals to everyone, especially when the target fish is exciting. Freshwater angling has many specific requirements, and one can actually track a trout up a stream for hours, which can be physically demanding. But when it comes to fighting fish, the catfish has nothing on ocean species.

So for the individual who likes to cast a line for a certain type, there is considerable research to be done. The more casual angler is satisfied to toss in bait of their choice and see what happens. Sport fish like the Silver King fall into the first category, and can make for a rewarding adventure.

If one is looking for a really big fish that is not extremely elusive, like marlin are, , then perhaps the Silver King might be to your liking. They are not just big, they are enormous, reaching nearly two meters in length. The are also powerful using their 150 kilogram bodies to resist every pull.

Since the fish is known to breed all year long, it has a robust and growing population. When they do spawn, females lay more than 10 million eggs, giving their survival a good chance from the beginning. They have a reputation for not being very tasty, which also helps their population numbers.

With an aggressive temperament and a tendency to feed all day and night, no wonder it is popular with anglers. It has another unique trait that is endearing to those wielding the rod and line, it has tiny teeth, so it takes the bait whole. Then the fight is on, and with their power, Key West tarpon fishing is a contest of strength and wile. key west tarpon fishing
