Barbour Jackets: A British Fashion Favourite

By Jane Little

Barbour waxed jackets are one of those iconic clothing brands that long ago earned a place in the fashion hall of fame, much-loved by anyone who spent a great deal of time outdoors, battling the famous British weather. No longer just restricted to the fashionable 'country set', Barbour Clothing is now a regular sight anywhere from the high street to the school run.

Over recent years the Barbour brand has gone from strength and is now flying the flag around the world for British clothing manufacturing. Aside from their legendary Barbour waxed jackets, Barbour are now also very well known for their quilted jackets which have recently enjoyed a massive surge in popularity. Quilted jackets seem to have become a fashion staple this winter, but the ultimate are, of course, Barbour.

On the back of the popularity of Barbour quilted jackets, Barbour have just launched a new range of coats and jackets for spring 2012. Barbour Men's Fore quilted jacket is destined to be incredibly popular. Although it seems similar to other Barbour quilted jackets, the Fore has been designed with a couple of new twists. With it's slightly fitted, 'shirt' styling, the flattering Fore jacket has four patch pockets on the front and is lightweight, making it ideal for spring. The Bosun Gilet has all the design features of classic Barbour quilted jackets but is slightly longer in length and with a stylish corduroy-lined funnel collar and a distinctive ensign printed lining. A new addition to the incredibly popular Barbour Chelsea range is the Flyweight Quilted Chelsea jacket; this is a lighter-weight version of the classic Chelsea jacket with slightly fitted styling.

Barbour haven't forgotten their much-loved waxed jackets and are launching a couple of new styles for this spring. Perhaps defining the Barbour brand more than any other jacket, Barbour's latest range of waxed jackets is certain to continue to guarantee their popularity. New for Barbour's Lifestyle Collection is the men's Heath jacket. Available in either olive or black, the Heath jacket has a stylish tartan lining. The Hardwick and Grassdale jackets are also new additions to the men's Lifestyle Collection both have been created with versatility in mind. With slightly smarter styling, the Hardwick or Grassdale would be perfect for walking the dog or walking to work.

Talking of travelling to work, Barbour's men's Bearer jacket is one of the smartest in the entire range. Designed by Barbour as a 'travel coat', the Bearer has a longer-length than other Barbour coats and has been stylishly cut from elegant, windproof fabric. This coat would be perfect for situations where you need to look smart but stay warm and dry.

For ladies Barbour has brought out a new Summer Liddesdale quilted jacket. Perfect for milder weather, the Liddesdale has attractive feminine styling to give definition and shape. Beautifully tailored from the shoulders through the body, the Liddesdale jacket has the same distinctive pockets as other Barbour jackets in this range. Smart enough for browsing around the shops or for a lunch date, the Liddesdale jacket is also practical enough for getting out and about in the countryside.

If you are looking for the ultimate coat to take you through spring and then summer, Barbour's Cotton Touch Summer Beadnell Jacket could be the perfect choice. This jacket is lightweight, waterproof and very, very stylish. Cut in an elegant, feminine shape, the Beadnell Jacket is available in several colours including sandstone, stone and navy, each featuring Barbour's classic tattersall lining.

Barbour fans are sure to love the latest additions to the Barbour ranges; Barbour continue to design some of the most stylish yet practical outdoor clothing on the market today. Destined to become firm favourites, Barbour's new coats and jackets have the combination of elegance and no-nonsense practicality that you'd expect from this iconic British brand.
