Understanding The Different Fly Fishing Nets Available

By Flora Vinson

Fisherman looking for the right fly fishing nets have a few different ones to choose from. Many times going to a site that sells these types of netting will easily confuse almost any fisherman. The best thing to do is to first understand the differences between them and then choose the one you are most comfortable using.

The landing net is a common type of net used when fly casting. There are a variety of different sizes to choose from to fit the size of fish you are after. Many times you will also come across a variety of different mesh materials used. Generally speaking the mesh is one that is finer and is often chosen by fisherman who want to release the fish.

Look for these types to be attached by the use of a magnet. The magnet allows you to quickly gain access to the net whenever you need it. Often you will see many fisherman carry this type of net on their backpacks or on their belts.

The boat style net is one that has a deeper net when compared to the landing style. Unfortunately for those not careful or looking to release they need to be aware about the drawback. The fish with a hook in its mouth can easily get tangled making it difficult to remove it without injury to any fish you catch.

The bag net design is as the name implies a deep net. Generally the mesh is made out of rubber. This design is also perfect for those who plan on releasing their catch. Many times these will come with a ring attachment at the top to make them easier to carry with a clip.

fly fishing nets are an essential part of making sure you get those fishes home. The general size of the net you choose to use will come down to understanding their strengths as well as the size of the fish. Simply put the bigger the game the bigger the net will have to be.
