No-Nonsense Preparation Tips To Have A Memorable And Successful Fishing Excursion

By Keith Reinber

A fishing trip is a great, rewarding experience. However, tiny oversights can really ruin an otherwise enjoyable day. Below are some helpful pointers so that you will have a memorable and successful fishing excursion.

Obtain a recreational fishing license

You have to remember that in certain jurisdictions, those who fish sans recreational fishing license are tagged as poachers. And if you are caught, you will face penalties that far exceed the cost of a sport fishing license. Non-residents and residents alike can choose from a number of recreational fishing licenses. They come in different durations, from short-term ones like one-day licenses, to long-term, even lifetime entitlements. You have to remember though that apart from the license, inland lakes may require entrance fees.

Check your fishing gear and supplies

Make sure that your fishing rod is in good working order. Remember to check your fishing pole for damages and have them repaired promptly if there are. Your fishing reel needs to be wiped clean of sand and grime, and adequately lubed so you won't have problems when you cast your line. Which brings us to our next point - remember to replace you worn-out fishing line too. In addition, it pays to be organized with your terminal tackles. That way, you don't have to rummage through your bag looking for the go-to-lure when a big catch is swimming nearby. Furthermore, never forget to take a water-resistant camera with you. Nothing can be more heartbreaking than having the largest catch of your life, and realizing that you won't be able to take a picture of it because you forgot to bring your camera with you. You should not, under any circumstance, head out to your fishing trip without a first aid kit.

Check your wardrobe

Donning on the right attire during a fishing trip is important not only for your comfort, convenience, and safety but it can help you fish more productively as well. When choosing fishing apparel, stick to earth tones to avoid spooking the fish, and ones with plenty of pockets, so you won't have to lug around a bag with you all the time. Also, you have to don on something suitable for the weather. As experienced anglers would say, expect the weather during your fishing trip to be wetter, hotter, or colder than what the weatherman said it's going to be.

In addition, remember to examine waders and sailing boots for nicks, and deep cuts weeks ahead to give you ample time to have them repaired if necessary. See if the internal padding of your sailing boots is intact. Since you won't be wearing boots all day long, you have to get non-slip sailing shoes. Look around for a pair of sailing shoes that are comfy, not as heavy, and dries off easily.

On your fishing trip, remember to wear a life vest too. Without a vest, you might not be able to swim with all the things you have on you.
