By Doug Taylor

A catfish rig is pretty simple. It is just the way that you set up your line with catfish bait and weight so you'll be set up to catch enormous catfish. But the good news is you don't have to have a fancy catfish rig to catch big catfish. Although there are plenty of selections out there you could be better off using a straightforward set up composed of a weight and a bobber. Add in a robust hook and the right catfish bait and you are on your way to catching some catfish.

One good catfishing rig is commonly known as a deep catfish rig. This particular rig uses a good robust weight attached to the end of the line instead of a hook. By putting the weight instead of the hook at the end of the line it helps you avoid getting snagged up. You ought to use about an One once weight and tie it to the end of the line with a palomar knot. This sort of knot is handy for tying things to the end of the line. It's not tough to tie and you won't see it coming lose often. Your line will snap before a palomar knot untangles.

Now you need to tie your hook Twelve to Eighteen inches from the end of your fishing line. Tie a dropper loop into the line to hold your hook and leader line. You could use a wire leader to keep the line that your hook is attached to from getting wrapped up with the line your weight is attached to. If you are fishing for smaller catfish and you are using chicken livers, worms, or dip baits then you ought to use a smaller hook such as a number Two up to a 2 / Zero. If your catfish bait is shad or perch you should try using a 8 / Zero or 9 / Zero hook.

If you'll be fishing in shallow waters you need to make a shallow catfish rig. This may require you to use good catfish bobbers. Put your bobber Two to 3 feet from your hook. How far you place the bobber depends on how deep you wish to fish. Add a split shot or two to your line and you are ready to go fishing. As far as what size hook to use just go with what kind of catfish bait you are going to be fishing with. Think about what kind of bait you're going to use and what size catfish you are looking to catch.

There are a lot of different catfish rigs out there, and every one has a selected purpose. When deciding what catfish rig to use keep the weather and temperature in mind Alongside the time of the year. All of these things can make a difference in catching some catfish and returning home empty handed.

Understanding how to set up different catfish rigs gives you more options. Options often means more fish, and catching more catfish is the reason why you are studying catfishing anyhow.
