Key West Fishing Charters Provide Great Value

By Jayne Rutledge

When you think of "tropical paradise", the United States is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. Florida brings lots of things to the table though, as the gateway to the Caribbean. From Key West fishing charters to the island's mish mash of cultures, the southern tip of the Sunshine State gives you all sorts of options for entertainment and vacations. Giving yourself plenty of time to take it all in is essential.

If you are a fan of rod and reel, Key West is probably already high on your list of places to visit. The tarpon are probably the most popular fish to go after as they provide a massive fight and quite a spectacle when they leap out of the water in an effort to rid themselves of your tackle. There are few places where they live so abundantly.

Tarpon are one of the most popular sport fish to chase down in this area. They provide a magnificent fight and are known for the gravity defying jumps they make during the fight. They aren't a very good food fish though. If you are looking for something that you can take home for dinner, the area also boasts of a huge population of grouper, some of the tastiest fish that the ocean produces.

Key West is only one of a chain of islands though and in order to fully experience the potential for wildlife, you'll need to do some exploring. Nature is something that controls the world down there. There are endangered birds and deer that you can't see anywhere else in the world. Invasive species are a problem but it does make for some interesting viewing. Iguanas and pythons have make this their home.

Once a commercial license is obtained, a boat should be the next order of business. Key West provides countless opportunities for new and used watercraft but not all of them are ideal for fishing. Ideally you want something that provides comfortable seating and accommodations for all of your passengers so you don't want anything that is too small.

The huge variety of cultures that you will find in Key West are astounding. One of the most prevalent is the influence that Cuba has had over the years. Only a hop, skip and a jump across 90 or so miles of water separate the two islands and the impact that has had on the area is huge and almost immeasurable.

Cuban food is available on almost every block. The smell of it will beckon and the satisfaction of eating it will definitely make foodies happy. The people are there as well. Whether it is a second or third generation or even first generation Cuban immigrants, the style and culture has definitely established a strong foothold and isn't going anywhere.

Planning your next vacation doesn't have to involve international travel if you're looking for a tropical get away. Key West fishing charters can provide your favorite sport fisherman with the adventure of a lifetime and the island itself provides countless different opportunities for entertainment and culture. The biggest problem with Key West is that when you visit, you don't want to leave.
