Carp Fishing Methods That Really Work

By Horace Palmdale Xavier

Fishing for carp always presents a good challenge. Carp are very feisty fish and can be tough to land. Yet that's what makes the sport so interesting, and when you do catch a good sized carp, it's very satisfying. If you want your results to improve when you are carp fishing, there are an infinite number of techniques you can employ. This report will tell you about some good choices.

Your choices of bait are many as carp like variety and will eat food that you wouldn't ordinarily use when fishing for other types of fish. This is great for the carp fisher because they can simply prepare bait from food they find in their kitchens. Even the pellets you feed your animals - as well as corn and bread - attract carp. A lot of carp fishers make their own dough balls and find them very well received by the carp. Just be careful when you are making up your dough balls, or whatever, that you don't transfer offensive scents onto your bait. Wash your hands well or wear plastic gloves. When the carp smell any human scents on their bait - such as tobacco or soap - they will not bite. It's a good idea to throw some bait into the water before you even start fishing to attract the carp and reduce their suspicion. Your chances of snagging a trout with your bait will be increased when you cast your line after you see that they are eating your "free sample."

Check your hooks often, because if they are not sharp they won't catch any fish. You can use either barbed hooks or barbless. For carp fishing, the preferred hook is barbless. You may even find barbed hooks disallowed in some areas so carry both barbed and barbless hooks with you. Another good reason to use barbless hooks is that many carp fishers return the carp to the water after they catch it. A barbless hook will cause less damage to the carp than a barbed one. Carp can be suspicious by nature and, it has been noticed that they are more prone to shy away from a barbed hook, even though they have less chance of getting off your hook when it's barbed. An unconscious mistake newcomers to fishing make is not realizing how easy it is to frighten the fish. Carp in particular are very sensitive and can easily detect your presence if you're not careful. It's imperative to be really quiet when your fishing spot is nearby. Try not to talk to the other fishers in your group or, if you must talk, do so in a whisper and only if you have to. Also, don't bang things around and make all sorts of noise when you unload your gear. Another tip to keep the fish from leaving is to stay out of the water so it isn't ruffled. This includes tossing refuse in the water as well. Vibrations can also be sensed easily by carp, so it's important to move around your camp lightfooted and only as much as is necessary. And remember they are also sensitive to odors - so try not to smoke or wear strong after shave - and keep the noise down as well.

It only makes sense that your results will be better if your familiarity with the area is good. Fishing is a little different wherever you go, and the type of carp will differ from one place to the next - there are, for example, common carp, bighead carp, and silver carp, among others. A good rule of thumb when you arrive at an unfamiliar location is to talk with locals to get information about the area. If you can't do that, do an online search of the area. The pond, lake, or other body of water you plan to fish in may not be large but, even so, there may be spots that are better for carp fishing than other areas. To increase your odds of catching any carp after you find a suitable location, you must determine when they like to feed. These kinds of tactics come with experience, but you will learn even faster if you can find an expert to give you advice.

If you want to learn how to catch carp, it's best to study the methods of those who are well versed in this art. The carp fishers in Europe have had plenty of time and experience in figuring out the best tactics for catching carp. Nowadays, you can talk to, and learn from, successful carp fishers in North America as well and they can give you advice pertinent to local conditions.

If you're just beginning a fishing pastime, acquiring all of the equipment could be pretty costly. That's why many individuals choose to get a personal loan to help purchase things. Check with your lender for more details.
