Checking Out White River Trout Fishing

White River trout fishing is some of the country's best. Not only is White River packed with trout, but it also ambles though some of the most beautiful terrain. The Ozark Mountains offer an unbeatable backdrop to a day of fishing on the White River. It is no wonder so many fisherman pick this river as their favorite fishing spot.

The White River stretches through Arkansas and Missouri. It is roughly 700 miles long. The river begins heading west and then eventually turns to the north until it curves deeply around and heads to the east. The final 250 miles of the river stretch to the east until it meets with the Mississippi River. White River trout fishing has something to offer everyone. It offers rapids and slow stretches, so whatever your particular taste, you will be able to find it on the White River.

There are several dams built on the river. These dams add to the already great White River trout fishing. Most of the dams can be found in Arkansas and a couple of them are in Missouri. Perhaps the most well known dam is the Bull Shoals dam. This Arkansas dam is a major tourist attraction.

White River trout fishing varies depending on the time of year. During the rainy season, the river is much higher and flows at a fast pace. However, during the dry season it lowers and slows considerably.

Water near Bull Shoals is much cooler. This is a a trout fisher's haven. Not only is it the ideal habitat for trout, but also the Fish and Game keeps it well stocked. This is a popular destination for thousands of fishermen every season and it seems there are plenty of fish to go around.

The Biggest Fish Around

White River trout fishing is exception in part because it is so well stocked with fish. Hundreds of thousands of fish are stocked annually. Nearly 90 percent of these are caught within one season. Of course, there are some old monsters out there too. It is not uncommon to catch both browns and rainbows in the five to ten pound range. The record brown weighed in at a hefty 33.5 pounds. The rainbow record is 19 pounds.

White River trout fishing remains popular year after year. It isn't hard to imagine why. With so many monsters ought there to be caught each year, it is no wonder so many anglers enjoy the river. Additionally, the Ozark Plateau provides one of the most beautiful backdrops in the country. If you haven't enjoyed fishing the White River yet, you'd better plan a trip while the fishin' is good.
