Fishing Beginner Guide

By Edward Simpson

As with any sport or pastime Angling requires skill and there are many aspects to learn if you wish to be successful. Lets face it, if you continue fishing with little or no results you will soon give up. It is far better to do some basic research before you embark on a fishing trip, you'll need to ensure that there are fish to be caught in the location you choose for a start, you will also need to know what species occupy the waters you intend to fish in, this will help you select the correct equipment you take with you, and so on.

Choosing the correct Bait is as important as anything else when it comes to catching fish, different fish have different diets. Make sure that you dress the hook with the bait correctly, if you are using live bait then there is a possibility it will escape the hook. Experiment with different types of bait as some are more effective than others.

If you can travel well on boats then you will find that some sea ports or towns will have organised fishing trips at sea, these normally last all day and the skipper of the boat will take the party to known locations where the chances of successful fishing are increased. These trips are good fun and a good way to meet experienced Anglers.

Decide on what fishing method you want to try and do some research too before buying your equipment as it is not cheap and it is better not to waste money. If you are preparing for your first fishing outing then you could consider purchasing second hand equipment to try as there are always bargains to be had at online auction sites.

Competition fishing at a river location can be good fun, especially if you win. I have drawn a peg next to another competitor that was only 10 yards away from me, he caught one fish in the competition and I caught seventeen in the same amount of time, sounds incredible but true. This clearly proves that there is a certain amount of skill required to catch fish.
