Dawsons Game and Trout Lodge is found in close proximity to Badplaas about 4 hours from Johannesburg in a picturesque location in the middle of slopes as well as a trout lake. In addition to the Lodge, there is also a cottage beside the trout lake which is great for anyone who wants to fish for trout. Many of our travel friends remained at the Lodge whilst I spent the night down in the thatched roof stone cottage. It is a self-catering unit that is well outfitted and even has satellite television. The size makes it suitable for a family group of 4 or 5 people who prefer their own personal living space.
We all turned up late afternoon hence there wasn't much time to accomplish a single thing following check-in prior to an evening meal was ready. Just before the evening meal, we had been asked to observe the chief cook demonstrate to us the way to prepare a fish which while I am not a fish eater, it was quite interesting. It is generally impressive how straightforward professionals make their job look.
Just like everywhere we stayed, the food was extraordinary and the whole group dined together on one long table that added to the atmosphere.
The following day immediately after the perfect breakfast, there was the possibility to indulge in several activities which include archery, quad bikes and horse riding but many of us made a decision to savour the opportunity to sleep in a bit later than we had been able to all week. I'd woken up early to try to capture some photos as the sun rose. It is a beautiful sight in the African wilderness to get up as it gets light and to witness the shadows cast by the mountains retreat as the sunlight advances. The morning mist very quickly faded away and a perfect blue sky was rapidly in its place.
Sadly there wasn't enough time to experience everything at Dawsons Lodge yet there are a good amount of activities to be had which include bird watching, game viewing (no predators), fly fishing, hiking and walking, horseback safaris, archery, clay pigeon shooting and quad biking. Dawsons Lodge is also the ideal setting for weddings in which the bride and groom can take it easy following their special day in the spa and wellness facilities. If you intend to take in Mpumalanga, Dawsons Lodge is a tremendous spot to take it easy.
