How to Make The Most of Your Carp Fishing in France

By Ted Fenton

We have all seen the massive carp and catfish pictured in the back of fishing mags in the advertisements for French carp fishing holidays. The fact is that a few specimens are worth crossing seas for. A fishing expedition to France can be pleasurable and restful if you know precisely how to get the most out of the trip.

When you are going to a different country to fish, you'll need a good assortment of tackle to enable you to make the most of it but you may also want to travel as lightly as is possible. You probably will find it challenging to strike this balance. Just think about how hard it is to lug your fishing gear from your vehicle to the water. Now picture how much more difficult that's going to be if you need to carry the same from your country to another country.

So Let me share some hints for your French carp fishing expedition. The first thing you should do is do your homework prior to hopping on a plane. If possible, have a fishing plan all set before leaving. A plan is flexible so don't get worried -- you can change your plan when necessary. It's just good to have a plan handy so you have a direction and have an idea of what fishing gear you need to bring with you. You can leave your night fishing equipment behind, for example, if you aren't planning to do any fishing after dark in France.

When I was young and new to fishing, I couldn't drive so I had to walk and take buses to my fishing sites. In addition, I float fished using sweet corn. All I brought was a lightweight fold up chair, a short fishing rod, some floats and hooks, a container of sweet corn and some weights. I may drive a Land Rover full of tackle and all kinds of fishing equipment now, but I can say I had heaps of fun in those days just as I do now.

Now I'm not implying that a short rod and a can of sweet corn are all you must take with you on your French fishing holiday. I'm saying you don't need to bring a load of fishing gear with you just so you can catch fish and enjoy yourself.

An additional good tip is to find lightweight gear. You will find a lot of fishing gear that's lightweight and ideal for traveling. For instance, numerous tackle makers have light, but sturdy tackle constructed from carbon fiber. They are lightweight but they're sturdy and capable of land heavy carp. As an incentive, the light-weight tackle is likely to not scare away fish.
