Sailing: Gear, Clothing And Accessories

By Keith Reinber

Going sailing is not just a leisure activity, but a sports activity as well. many risks are faced by sailors everyday while at sea. They are placed under the mercy of nature. Natural disasters like storm and lighting may hit the boat while at sea. You may also come across sharks or any dangerous creatures. Pirates may also chase after your boat. Dangers may beset you while traveling. That is why you have to be prepared with your sailing gear. What do you need and what are the things that you want to bring that you do not need? You should note these things down so as not to forget anything.

If you are planning to go fishing while sailing, a pair of sailing gloves is a real necessity. You will also need sailing gloves to maneuver ropes to turn the boat around or cast the sails. Wearing gloves will help protect your hands. You must take into consideration the material used when choosing a pair of gloves. Leather gloves are durable and comfortable. On top of that, they also last long. However, they cost much.

There are also rubber gloves and faux leather. They are comfortable as well, but since they are made of synthetic material, they are not very durable. Take into consideration what your activities will be before you buy a pair. You would not want something which cannot come up to your standards. This would be throwing away good money.

In order to be sure that nothing goes wrong, check all the parts of your boat before sailing. Are the parts in good physical condition? Always watch out for defects in the rudder, centerboard, tiller, tiller extension, and control lines. Even if only one of these is in poor condition, you will place your crew and guests at risk.

A good sailor does not compromise safety. Many sailors fail to check the condition of their boat on a daily basis, and this causes most of accidents at sea. Making sure that your boat is seaworthy is a step closer to being safe. It is also helpful for you to bring spare parts of so you can repair even at sea. if you happen to be at sea when something breaks, you cannot sail back to the dock to have it repaired so it is always helpful to have spare parts ready.
