Catfishing has become more and more popular not only in the United States but as well as in many countries like Canada and countries in Asia. This is because catfish does not only provide a good meal but they are also fun and easy to catch especially that catfish can be found in both saltwater and freshwater. Catfish has a barbell or whiskers similar to a cat which they use for sensory purposes and this makes them easy to be identified and distinguished among other types of fishes. Among the many numbers of baits that one can use in catfishing, some of the most popular are sucker minnow, worms, frogs, cutbait, chicken liver and shrimps.

Most catfish are found in freshwater making them easier to locate and finding a good location to catch a catfish is not very difficult. Also, catfishing only requires use of the most basic fishing equipment. Here are some tips on how you can catch larger catfish when you do your catfishing:

-Early fall and spring are good times to do catfishing because of the rising of the water as a result of either autumn rains or melting of snow.

-So that you will increase the possibility of catching more catfishes, it is recommended that you do your catfishing at dusk since catfish are known to be less active during the day and more active at night.

-Catfishing may also be done during summer but make sure to do it at night because catfish tends to be groggy and slow moving during this time which is an effect of the warm water.

-Catfish love to lurk in areas such as base of dams, side banks, fallen trees and hollowed stumps.

-Unlike when catfishing during the day, catfishing at night requires you to be quieter because of the absence of daytime noise that can cover up the noise you make.

-Knowing more information about catfish like the different species of catfish as well as the habitat of these different species and the baits that can attract them are things that you to be aware of in order for you to increase your chances of catching the type of catfish that you are looking for.

-Live baits that wiggle and produce water vibrations easily gets the attention of the catfish that is why it is necessary that you use a live bait especially when you plan to do your catfishing in still water like lakes and ponds.

-Choose to use baits that are fresh since this catches the attention of the catfish more.

-When your hook is already in the water, try to make no movements if possible and make sure to keep the hook down on the water. After 12 minutes and nothing happens, try to look for other area which you think is a good place that catfish may lurk or hide.
