By Chloe Gib

One of the inexplicably satisfying experiences one can have is fighting a huge fish. It is a special challenge trying to bring in and land a sea creature larger than you are. With that as a goal, one must use big game fishing tackle to have any possibility of success.

Those who have grown up near the ocean are used to a heftier set of angling equipment than those who coax trout from mountain streams. Ocean fish and are usually bigger stronger than there. Of course, there are some giants in fresh water, like the catfish and the alligator gar, but on average, ocean species are larger.

Vacations are usually designed around a certain theme; the outdoors, the arts or an entertainment park of one type or another. When it comes to getting tremendous excitement while enjoying the sun and water, deep-sea angling is at the top of the list. This is one way are few other ways to pit man against nature without having to kill the target species.

Being out on the sea is exciting all on its own; the wind, the salt spray and the sun set the stage for a fantastic adventure. With the help of experienced guides or after having learned the techniques for oneself, everything is ready for that special moment. Bait trailing behind, anticipation mounts until finally it comes, that big strike that announces clearly; fish on!

At the top end of the scale are species like the famous marlin that grow to great sizes and can fight fiercely for hours. Growing to a size of up to 19 feet and nearly a ton in weight, it is clear regular fishing reels would not be up to the task. But one need not set a world record to enjoy the thrill of the fight on the sea.

No matter where one fishes or what the target species is, it is important to have the right equipment for the task. A five pound fish is much harder to fight and land on two pound test line. The same is true for the hooks, swivel snaps and fishing reels, one needs the right tools for the job at hand.

Fighting huge sea creatures is a long and grueling process that really tests the body and mind. It takes a plan to pace oneself for the long and physical test of strength and will that actually landing the fish will require. Through it all one must be able to depend on the big game fishing tackle to stand up to the battle.
