A Beginners Guide To Carp Fishing In France

By Evan Mitz

Fishing for carp is an extremely popular pastime in many areas of Europe. The size that these fish can achieve and the fight that they give is an attraction to many anglers with fish regularly exceeding the 30lb mark. Though this may be enough for most the more passionate angler would surely like to land a bigger catch. For them the next step is surely to try carp fishing in France.

Because of the higher temperatures in France the carp can grow to immense sizes that are just not possible elsewhere in Europe, the fish can easily get above the 60lb mark. With carp fishing methodology pretty standardized everywhere anglers will already be aware of all the techniques employable for catching carp though innovative baits can usually pay dividends.

If money is limited then the publicly owned lakes in France are to be recommended. There are so many that one is really spoilt for choice, all one needs is to purchase a licence from the nearest tackle shop. As they are public lakes they cannot be guaranteed to land a monster so it is vital to seek local advice to gauge which lake is the best one to go for.

There are some of these publicly owned lakes that are run by local organizations and their stocks and size of fish will be reflect how much management of the fish is carried out. For these lakes a fee will have to be paid and the fishing may not be much better than lakes that are not managed.

Privately owned lakes in France can offer quite a luxurious excursion with excellent accommodation and facilities akin to a luxury hotel. They can also be on the cheaper side where the quarters are considerably more basic. Though the cost is higher the fish are always on the larger side and the lakes are rather well stocked. The general rule is you do get what you pay for.

On the even more expensive side of things are French lakes owned by British entrepreneurs. Here the fish are again very well stocked and on the large side and the lakes are run very similarly to the large commercial fisheries in the UK. Another obvious advantage is that everyone speaks English and they will tend to stock more familiar baits.

With its easily accessible location, idyllic countryside and lovely weather carp fishing in France has much to recommend it, and you don't even have to speak the lingo if you don't want. There are budgets to suit every ones pocket and the chance of catching a monster carp is surely something to tempt the ardent angler.
