It Won't Save Your Life if You are Not Wearing it

By Robert Cliford

Do you own a life jacket?Have you ever heard about inflatable life jackets? Some people never wear them when they are on the water. But, this leads to plenty of drowning each year.It only takes one accident to turn deadly. Sure, there are experienced swimmers who feel that even they are above the ability to lose control and drown. However, you never know when a wave or current might become stronger than usual and cause you to go under.A life jacket can help you. However, it cannot help you if you do not have it on. But before you put one on, you have to have the mindset that it is a fashion accessory or something that you do just because.A life jacket might save your life.

There are five levels of floatation jackets. They go from levels one to five. The lower the number, the better the jacket.

Level one is for the person who is out to sea or on rough currents. You really don't expect to get rescued very quickly. This jacket has the ability to turn over a unconscious person. It can deal with the rough waves. So, if you fall from your cruise ship, this jacket can save you.

A level two life jacket also has the ability to turn an unconscious person over if they fall in the water. However, it is designed for a fast rescue. You cannot stay in the water for long periods of time with this jacket.

A level three life jacket is the most common one. It is used when people are doing recreational activities such as boating or fishing. It is used in places such as lakes and rivers or inland waters. These types are inflatable life jackets:They Do Not Work if You Do Not Wear Them

from an online fishing store. It is designed for a quick rescue if something went wrong.

A level four floatation device is a emergency ring that you see people get when they are drowning.Use these in emergency situations. Also for emergency situations are level five jackets.

Basically, these jackets will work when they are used properly. They have to fit well too. But, mostly, you have to have it on to function.Do not assume that you do not need it. It could save your life.

Learn About Antique Fishing Lures

By Annabelle Newton

Since the dawn of man, humans have been catching fish for food. As our minds became more intellectual and we began designing tools, we learned that fish like going for bait. This whole niche of sportsmanship has led to a lot antique fishing lures. These old lures can also be referred to as baits and they are highly collectible.

Something similar to baits was something called fish decoys which actually do still last today. They were used for catching fish in frozen over bodies of water, most commonly in lakes. A hole is cut into the ice, a fish comes and it is hopefully caught by the fisherman with a spear.

They were usually hand carved pieces of wood. They were painted to mimic the look of bait fish that were native to the area in which they were used. Older ones that are still in good condition can be auctioned for a few hundred dollars normally. Attached was something called a jig stick with a string just to jerk the decoy around to make it seem that it was alive.

Determining factors which assign value to the different types of decoys are obviously the materials used and the name of the maker. If a signature is present, the value increasingly goes up depending on the person who made it and how skillful they were in their trade. Although this tool is not used so much these days because rods are so accessible to people, some people still enjoy using them and it will always be in existence.

The most common means of catching fish for the average person would be the use of the old fashioned rod and line. People used to train themselves and have great skill within their own trades. This led to the production of very high quality items which are now all collected today. Many baits are painted, however sometimes the craftsman will sometimes leave it plain.

Aluminum used to be hard to produce and was considered to be a precious metal. Knowing this, many tradesmen used it in their work and make high quality products. It was so widely used in this trade that governments began to ban the usage of it with fisherman items because they were running low on supply.

The first people who began making baits primarily consisted of jewelers, believe it or not. That is an interesting fact of history to know about. Other commonly used materials used in the trade were cork, wood, plastics and animal fur. Generally, the craftsmen were proud of their work and usually branded their work with their company name or a personal signature.

The higher end models known back in the day are now worth thousands of dollars. Something to keep in mind when collecting these is that a lure by itself is essentially only half of the item. If the original box accompanies the lure, it is like having a complete item and is worth much more all together. Collecting antique fishing lures can be a very fulfilling hobby because there are so many things to take into consideration as we as having items crafted with utmost care and skill.

Taiwanese Shrimp Fishing

By Jonny Blair

It was another random Friday night in Shinying and surely this one has to be one of the most enjoyable Friday nights of all time. We went Shrimp Fishing in Taiwan! Really! It was suggested to us on the Thursday night, whilst at the night market with two of Neil's workmates - Binh and David. They said something like "did you know that you can go Shrimp Fishing any time you like, round the corner from here for 150 dollars?" I was initially sceptical as I'm not a great fan of seafood, but then was loving the idea in the build up to it, and especially when we were sat there, relaxing, with a beer, fishing for shrimps.

The shrimp fishing was a bit difficult to find at first - a shy hidden venue. But once we found it and got inside it was excellent. A great experience. Firstly we got our rods and a few beers then we sat down ready to catch them. Every one you catch, you get to eat!

Price was 150 Taiwan Dollars which includes your rod and your bait (small fish). Grab a beer and sit and relaxing waiting to catch some shrimps! It's the same price no matter if you catch 2 or 29!!

We got our beers in and my goal was simple - I only wanted to catch one shrimp - that was it. I hoped I could do it - it was my first time. David and Binh, my friends were flying - they already had caught a few. I added bait to my rod and hung about - I put two fish as bait and waited!

This was certainly a random night that we will remember - first time for shrimp fishing for me and just loving the travel lifestyle of it all! You can notice the shrimps in the murky green water - trick is not to move your rod too much and put them off.

When one of our rods bent down towards the water, you knew a shrimp was chewing the bait and it was a case of choosing the right moment to pull your rod up, hoping the shrimp wouldn't fall off. Hoping the shrimp was caught, Hoping the shrimp would make it into the fish net, which already contained quite a few shrimps. Ugly white and pink creatures these. I certainly had never seen or eaten one before. Soon I'd be doing both.

I heard a yank from Neil and he had caught his first shrimp! He pulled it out and the trick is to squeeze the shrimp and stop it from moving. It will put up a fight when you first ctach it. Then you need to pull the hook out of its mouth. Just after this I realised my bait had gone, a shrimp had eaten it but not been caught on my rod. It was just my dream to catch even one, and I was confident I could, especially when Binh was catching them for fun. She caught a total of 5 the whole night.

But alas it didn't take too much longer until I finally caught my shrimp!! I was happy! I felt it tugging, tanked it slowly up and then preceeded to drop it on the floor before securing it into my net! Job done - I caught a shrimp in Taiwan.

In total we had managed to catch about 10 shrimps which wasn't too bad - it was our first time doing it. The locals are excellent at it - they seemed to catch a lot. Must be a trick to it and a case of practice makes perfect. Now we had the shrimps it was time to cook and eat them!

To cook them just grill them on both sides and it's fast - between 10 and 20 minutes. They were quite big and of course we shared them and ate them with just salt but you can get all sorts of dishes and side orders to eat them with. All in all this is a fantastic way to spend a Friday evening in Shinying - Taiwan!!

Landing a Fish is Easier with Proper Landing Nets

By Robert Cliford

There are many types of equipment associated with fishing. Landing nets are a staple found in the gear of nearly every angler. The convenience of a built-in measuring device found in the net is one feature. The convenience is weighing and measuring the fish while it is in the net. There is never a need to touch the fish. After the math, it is just a matter of unhooking and returning him to the water.

This net is easy to design for those familiar with crafts. Unless you count time, it is inexpensive. Many things are used to create perfect pieces of equipment for fishing. The different nets found when shipping online fishing store or at standard stores is unbelievable.

The handle and frame are constructed of either wood or lightweight metal such as aluminum. Net strength depends on the materials used for the netting, such as nylon mesh. Quite a few things expand the basic design. Different areas, such as rivers, ice ponds and oceans, change design. The best nets cover nearly every situation that the angler faces. Some nets include a built-in magnetic release system that allows easy attachment and removal from the fishing vest. Regardless of where the fishing is taking place, the net is one less item to hold in your hand as it is until needed.

Have you ever wondered why landing nets are one of the most popular kinds? This net is kind to both the fish and the angler. If a person is fishing from a boat, it helps land the fish quickly once hooked. Reduce the catch time with the proper net. Although the fighting and playing out of the line adds to the excitement, it decreases the time you have to catch another. There are many benefits of using a net such as catching the fish and releasing it without injury. Nets also help an angler because there is less chance of injury from a hook in the hand when trying to land a catch.

There is more to the technique than just putting the net in the water and trying to scoop up the fish. It is discouraging to have the catch of a lifetime and lose it. Catch the limit with the right netting moves. Fishing pals help the person with a fish on the line by manning the net. It takes a team effort, one to catch and one to net. Have the net at the ready and avoid grabbing it too early. Poor handling can knock the fish loose, trip the angler and cause lost equipment and damage to all.

The fish frequently breaks the line or slips off the hook when landing nets go into the water too quickly. There is a rhythm to netting methods that gets easier each time it is done. Drop the net in the water beyond the fish. Submerge the net most of the way down, leaving some of the rim showing. Let the angler play the fish to the net. Lift the net slightly to bring the fish to the boat after it crosses the net's rim. The perfect lure in a tackle box and the right fishing buddy to net and bring the catch safely in makes a great trip.

A Guide To Some Of The Most Common Catfish Hooks

By Mackie Douglas

Hooks are one of the most important pieces of tackle which any angler possesses. Without them, it is, of course, impossible to catch any fish at all. What follows is a brief run-down of the kind of catfish hooks which are most commonly used by anglers to catch this kind of fish.

A very widely used hook, and not just by catfishermen, is the J hook, which takes its name from the shape of the letter 'J', which it replicates. This kind of hook is used widely in all kinds of fishing, and comes in a huge variety of sizes, from tiny to very large indeed. It works well with various baits, whether cut, dead or live.

This type of hook can be found with or without an offset eye, and their gap can be wide or narrow. When fishing with this type of hook for catfish, it is always a good idea to set the hook. This means that the fish is less easily able to throw the hook and escape the angler's clutches.

The Kahle hook is another type of hook which is often used by anglers who are fishing for cat fish. While this kind might look quite similar to a J hook to non-fishermen, they are distinguished by their bends, which are twisted out at angle to the rest of the hook. This design feature can help if you are using large dead or cut baits, but can be the cause of some missed fish if the angler is live baiting, as the point of the hook can be obscured.

One type of hook which is becoming increasingly popular with catfisherman is the circle hook. This kind of hook has been very popular with sea fisherman, especially those who are hunting large trophy fish. This type of hook has a design which means that it can only hook onto an exposed surface, which will usually be the fish's mouth.

The circle hook is a good hook to choose if you are a catch and release angler, as it reduces the likelihood of gut hooking fish. The fish can swallow the bait when this kind of hook is used and then the fisherman can reel it slowly up into the mouth, where it will hook. Baits like worms and chopped livers are good to use with a hook such as this.

There are other kinds of catfish hooks available, but these three form a useful basic arsenal for each angler to keep handy. Other types of hook, like treble hooks, can be effective but are not great for the welfare of fish. If you need further specialist advice, speak to an experienced angler.

What You Need To Do When Looking For Oil Fishing Tools

By Lorrie Kamaka

The process of drilling for oil is as interesting and technical as any other form of mining. The more thrilling thing is that accidents also occur in the wells just like in many other places. Tools could drop into the wells or other objects used within the area. When such a thing happens, the engineers must retrieve the item using a host of oil fishing tools.

To avoid the risk of overshots given the time lines, you must make sure you have plans on how to get the right machinery in case you need to get anything done in good time. At this point, you are better of working with firms that have some vast experience in picking out stuff from the wells. Dealing with inexperienced firms could also damage the wells.

It is equally important to note that in the oil prospecting sector just like in any others, there are firms that actually do the prospecting and others that provide the relevant machinery needed to do this job. The same machinery also needs to be serviced and maintained prompting the need for a good oil field service company.

This however should not be your worry because there are many companies that deal with the machines from the servicing and repairs point of view. They also double up as machinery rental companies. This means that they can rent out machines to companies who need to use them for some work for an agreed amount of money.

It is however important to understand that such machines can be too costly. This is only natural because most of them are too sophisticated. Just similar to what happens in the construction sector and other sectors that require very heavy machinery; there are some firms that have decided to invest in the provision of maintenance services to the firms.

To avoid spending too much money in case you are on a right budget, you can always look for other drillers within your area and find out whether they have any fishing equipment in their possession that could be useful. This will save you lots of money.

There are drilling companies that only specialize in the provision of the necessary equipment as well as the servicing and maintenance of the same. Such companies have a host of machines as a well as a huge wealth of experience from the kind of personnel they have in employment. They are therefore better placed to handle such matters.
