An Overview Of Carp Fishing Alarms

By Kenneth Raggerty

When angling, especially after dark or for prolonged sessions, one needs carp fishing alarms that will be priced within their budget, reliable and effective, especially if the trip goes into days or even weeks.

The good thing is you do not have to purchase the best one, because whatever your price range they all perform fairly well. Cheap versions are still effective but just have less features than the higher priced ones.

If you've been angling for carp for a while and want to upgrade older equipment, then maybe your after one with extra features to make life a little easier, or you may just feel like a change and reward yourself for all those long hours with a top of the range type model.

The least expensive models are basically just a buzzer, a bottom of the line product that is able to complete the job, let you know when a fish bites. They usually do not even have a volume control, just one tone and one pitch and fits directly onto the rod rest.

With so many different products by so many manufacturers it is difficult to make a choice, initially it should be the one you can afford to own as they all can be effective, even the cheapest type.

The models between cheapest and highest priced have quite a few more features including the ability to set the loudness and the tone of volume. This will allow you to set the volume and tone much higher if close to passing traffic, or if you need to sleep.

The more expensive products obviously has the most features, even though they are extremely expensive for what they are most anglers consider it money well spent. Features can include total waterproof in case it falls into water, shock proof which protects against knocks or accidental drops. Also better volume and tone control with a much higher and deeper pitch available.

When deciding to purchase carp fishing alarms the most important thing is to get the most enjoyment from your favorite sport or hobby so buy within your budget. The cheapest and the most expensive both can perform the same function, the cheapest version will not make you catch less fish just as the highest priced won't make you catch more. The main thing is to enjoy your session, these products just make it a little more fun.

The Best Types Of Catfishing Bait

By Doug Taylor

To catch a gigantic catfish, the best sort of bait to use is whatever the catfish eat naturally. Most kinds of catfish are omnivorous and scavengers, devouring a selection of food items.

Anglers use many differing kinds of bait to draw in these fish. Some of the more commonly used types of catfishing bait are : live perch, shad, crawfish, worms, minnows, grasshoppers, chicken liver, stink baits, night crawlers, marshmallows, and little frogs. In general, using live bait is preferable. And since catfish possess a powerful olfactory sense, use pungent baits as well.

Worms also work best for catfishing. You may use night crawlers or garden worms. Usually folks tend to use garden worms to catch catfish because they're straightforward to find nearly anywhere. Sometimes it seems like the catfish is just waiting for the worms. You'll find mini crawlers in bait shops, but you will need to dig up garden worms alone.

Shrimp or tiny prawns is another fave catfish bait. Depending on the size of the prawn, use them whole or cut them in half. Although you may use prawns with their shells still attached, it is better to remove the shells.

You can purchase either frozen or fresh shrimp at your local sea food market. You may soak the shrimp or prawns in fish oil for 1 or 2 minutes so they develop a more sharp odor.

Catfishing can also done with homemade bait. Add one or two spoonfuls of peanut butter to some crushed corn flakes or frosted flakes, and mix it all together. This homemade recipe has oils in it that release to help to attract the fish. And, the peanut butter and corn flake blend is almost very unlikely for smaller fish to get off the hook.

You may also try using pieces of sweet corn. Place a few pieces of corn onto each point of the treble hook, then wrap a piece of bread ball around it to cover the hook. The sweet smell will be released, tempting the catfish. Plus, smaller fish will not be able to eat this sort of bait. The bread helps catch those hook-shy fish that have gotten that way from too much catch and release.

Another type of bait that catfish really love is cheese.

It's entertaining to use your mind and come up with your own home-made catfish bait recipes. With their feeble visual acuity, catfish use their powerful nose to help them find and catch their prey. So when you're making homemade catfish bait, confirm your mixtures have a strong smell to attract the catfish.

Catfish aren't fastidious eaters, so it's not difficult to make your own home-made catfish bait which will attract the hungry fish to your line.

Bonefishing Christmas Island

By Paul Collery

Christmas Island, AKA Kiritimati is in the Republic of Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean not very far from the equator. It is about 3000 klm north east of Fiji and 1200 klm south of Hawaii. With the primary island in the group being 3000 klm to the east, Christmas Island truly is one of the most isolated places on earth.

Map of Christmas Island (Kiritimati)

There are just over 90 000 Kiribas residents living on over 30 atolls and islands spread all over 5 million square kilometers of water along the equatorial line Many are quite poor as the land are often without soil and grow very little crops. Economic possibilities are few with government administration service, fishing and tourism being the only real possibilities both in the country and also on Christmas Island.

The majority of the 5000 odd residents on the island have no or limited employment.

Fishing

Fishing tourism on Christmas Island is a major industry with a few thousand fishermen from across the world travelling to Christmas Island each year to indulge their fly fishing passion in bonefishing. The island has a large and shallow lagoon of about 400 square klm and it is home to healthy populations of large Bluefin, Golden and Giant Trevally with Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin and Mahi Mahi found on the outer reefs and in blue water.

Bonefish Giant Trevally

As Christmas Island is just about right on the equator the weather does not change much year round. Median daily temperatures year round are approximately 30 with night times around 23. The area is a minimal rainfall year round with a touch more rain october to december.

It is naturally the fantastic Bonefishing that pulls fishers to Kiritimati with miles of shallow, warm flats to wade thru generally less than two feet deep and large and hungry bonefish dining in the upper tides. Best conditions are found in light winds, with clear skies, inbound tide shortly after or before a new or full moon. Fly fishing is the chosen method but Bonefish may also be caught with spin fishing outfits. Bonefish cruise around the flats feeding on the bottom and can spook extraordinarily simply so that the plop of a lure or slice can scare them off. You'll need to be in a position to cast accurately to 40 foot and carefully lay down a fly close to the fish. Most Bonefish taken are less than 5 lb but giants of twice that size are typically landed.

Use of guides

It is often advisable to employ a local guide as their experience and knowledge will land you a lot more fish and when I was there I saw only half of the fish the guides saw. At around $50 a day it is easily worth it and they require the employment that this industry brings to the atoll. Most accommodation houses will prepare packages including a guiding and a boat but you must bring all of your own gear as none is available for hire or sale.

Accommodation

Accommodation on Christmas Island is in most cases clean and comfy but basic. Food will be abundant but not fancy and there are limited shopping facilities available. The Australian currency is the currency of use, power supply is 240v, water should often drunk from sealed containersand there aren't any exotic sicknesses known.

Travel To Christmas Island

Air Pacific, The national carrier of Fiji is the only airline to fly to Kiritimati and they do this only once every week from Nadi in Fiji and Honolulu in Hawaii. All flights arrive on the island on Wednesdays.

Learn More On Carp Fishing For Beginners

By Louise Nash

This carp fishing for beginners guide is designed to offer some simple tips and tricks for an aspiring fisherman. Many people might consider carp to be just a giant, less attractive goldfish, but in truth, these fish can be more than a challenge for a new fisherman, and an experienced one who might be used to a different game.

Every fisherman knows that the true secret to any successful fishing venture is the bait. Most fishermen prefer to make their own for these fish, as they do not require expensive ingredients. In fact, these fish will happily eat bread and corn, so many fishermen simply mix up some bread, corn, and flavoring into a consistency that will stick to the hook.

However, it is important to note that these fish are very picky and suspicious eaters who will always taste first before they really take a bite. For this reason, it is very important to avoid transferring any unwanted scents or tastes to the bait. Some fishermen might use glues to get the bait to stick better but the fish rarely like the taste of that. Also, it is recommended to wear gloves while handling and preparing bait, as carp are known to reject bait with human scent on it. This is especially crucial for smokers, since all fish hate the smell of nicotine.

A simple trick to use is to throw some bait without a hook into the water to get the fish used to the taste of your bait. Once they eat some of the free floating bait, they will be highly likely to bite. Some fishermen will even show up at the fishing spot for a few days in a row and feed the fish regularly. The fish will get used to it and show up at the same time every day.

Dropping in a hook with bait on it will scatter and frighten fish, so the proper way of doing it is to cast into the distance beyond the area where the fish are feeding, and then slowly and carefully reel the hook closer.

If you just throw the bait in, the fish will scatter, so a proper technique is key, which means casting the line far behind the fish and then slowly drawing it in.

This carp fishing for beginners guide has listed a few very simple but useful facts for any fisherman considering taking on this fish. There is no teacher like experience, though, and the best way to get better at carp fishing is to go fish.

Visitors here can take guided fly fishing trips, or just do some fly fishing or spin casting on their own.

One of the most spectacular sites is the Shoshone Falls; this magical place is often referred to as the Niagara of the West. The mystical waterfall is 212 feet in height, giving a spectacular, picturesque appeal. The water flows into the Snake River and is 45 feet higher than the grand Niagara itself. This waterfall has been attracting tourists for centuries; it has been around since the ice ages.

Still, others love to head to the Palouse region. The area is great for hiking and biking across the silt dunes. The area is known for its wheat and legumes production. Fascinating tours of these farms can be arranged. The Palouse grasslands have been largely destroyed, but what remains of them is fascinating.

Most people come to Idaho for skiing at the Idaho City Park N' Ski Area, but now the area is a popular attraction during the summer as well. The city is now renting the yurts, or cabins, during the summer to help boost the economy. This area provides breathtaking hiking and bike-riding up the side of a mountain.
